The Conference for Advanced Life Underwriting (CALU) (www.calu.com) is a national, professional membership association of established financial advisors (life insurance, wealth management, and employee benefits), accounting, tax, legal, and actuarial professionals. For more than 25 years, CALU has provided a reliable and trusted expert sounding board for the Federal Government in developing effective public policy and examining the practical implications of tax and industry changes relating to advanced planning issues. CALU consults with the government and elected officials on behalf of all Advocis members, (The Financial Advisors Association of Canada), CALU members and their client base, including business owners and their employees. CALU’s contribution in providing evidence based results on practical implications of public and tax policy have resulted in new legislation avoiding unintended consequences. Through these efforts, CALU represents the interests of millions of Canadians.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President will ensure the association is well managed and continues to deliver on its value proposition for the benefit of its members. You understand that multi- stakeholder environments require a strategic approach to relationship management, and that CALU needs to maintain professional relationships with other associations, members, and related stakeholders that often have divergent views or different perspectives.
As a natural leader, you have demonstrated experience working with staff to accomplish organizational goals and objectives. You are a skilled negotiator, facilitator, listener, and have a high degree of integrity. As a strategic thinker, you are adept at identifying long term, understanding ‘the big picture’, finding creative solutions to complex problems, and will ensure that CALU is well positioned to meet future challenges.
