Job Description

Position Purpose

Reporting to the Director of Membership, the Membership Development Manager (MDM) will be responsible for developing, executing and managing strategies and initiatives as they relate to recruiting new members, and engaging and retaining existing members – both individual and corporate. This seasoned individual will be in-touch with current and emerging member needs, and understands the challenges faced by the sector. Assigned a mandate to grow membership targets, and retain current levels, the successful candidate is an energetic and motivated self-starter who has proven experience with meeting and exceeding sales goals in a highly dynamic work environment. He or she also oversees execution of the annual membership drive as well as all member communications; working closely with the Communications, Marketing and other departments.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Develop and document the membership strategic action plan, with objectives, measures of progress and schedules for key projects/initiatives. Sets annual membership recruitment and retention goals for the association and develops a plan to achieve those goals. Assist with the development of effective strategies that generally promote the value of CIM membership. Monitors and realigns ongoing actions to meet targets. Desired outcomeDevelop and execute deliverables and communications towards membership development activities.

  • Plan and execute membership growth campaigns involving attendance at selected events, and playing an active role in the social media strategy. Monitors membership materials’ readiness and oversees membership specific parts of the website. Desired outcome: Grow the base of referrals and leads. Update, correct and upkeep all relevant information.

  • Capture and track communications with industry contacts, individual and corporate members and clients, and with key partner organizations – primarily towards membership campaigns and objectives.  Prepares corporate communications and prepares membership materials for presentations, sales and renewal processes. Benchmark policies and practices with likewise organizations. Desired outcomeMaintain ongoing contacts towards relationship building.

  • Drive and foster communications between CIM, its Branches and Societies. Gather and disseminate Branches’ contact and event information.  Engage with current and past CIM volunteer leaders and ambassadors. Seize opportunities to promote CIM services and membership. Desired outcome: Ensure regular and transparent communications with all stakeholder groups. Support Branches and Societies in joint membership recruitment/retention initiatives.

  • Mapping of student bodies and chapters, graduates and under-graduates as well as young professionals. Manages student chapter relations and programs. The MDM liaises with faculties, professors, student organizations and alumni clubs. Desired outcome: Attracting upcoming industry professionals, securing new members and building the base of CIM’s future membership.

  • Perform any other related tasks providing support as required.
     

Knowledge, Experience and Skills
University or College degree in business management, marketing or other related field;

  • (5)  years of experience in sales and marketing – in the not-for-profit sector, an asset;

  • Bilingual with excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • Knowledge of the mining industry or industrial field, an asset;

  • Ability to navigate various communications platforms including social media.

  • Autonomous, proactive, organized and resourceful;

  • Fluency in the use of the MS Office suite;

  • Team oriented at every level of the organization, from Executives to support staff;

  • Ability to work under pressure and with time constraints

  • Availability to travel
