The Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC) is an individual member-supported organization dedicated to advancing the chemical sciences and engineering. It is comprised of three professional societies: the Canadian Society for Chemistry, the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering, and the Canadian Society for Chemical Technologists. CIC organizes Canada’s two premier annual conferences for the chemical sciences and engineering. It publishes ACCN, the Canadian Chemical News, a national magazine and The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering. In addition, the CIC confers awards, oversees a network of Local Sections and Subject Divisions, lobbies the government on issues of research funding and regulations, accredits university programs, certifies chemical technologists and reaches out to the public to advance their understanding and appreciation of the chemical sciences and engineering.

Job Description

The Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC) invites applications for a five (5) year (renewable) appointment of Executive Director. Reporting to the CIC Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the Chemical Institute of Canada and its three constituent societies according to the strategic direction set by each of the societies Board of Directors. The Executive Director works in a collaborative relationship with the society Boards of Directors, CIC staff, members, supporters and volunteers.  For more detailed information on CIC activities, please consult our website.

The ideal candidate will possess a university degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or similar field, and have a minimum of 10 years of progressive management experience including a senior leadership role in a not-for-profit, government, or private sector organization related to the CIC mandate.  We are looking for a goal driven and strategic leader who is able to lead change collaboratively with all stakeholders and is focused on value to the membership of the constituent societies.  You have demonstrated outstanding skills in: communication (preferably in both English and French), relationship building within Canada and internationally, and focusing resources on strategic goals.
