The Royal Saskatchewan Museum (RSM) exists to gather information about, and educate citizens on, the province’s natural history and Aboriginal cultures. Thanks to recent investments in the facility, exhibits and programming, as well as a number of high profile scientific contributions by staff, the RSM is on pace to host 140,000 visitors in 2016-17.
The Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport has a challenging opportunity for a highly skilled, innovative leader to become the Director of the RSM. We are seeking an individual with a passion for natural and human history, a commitment to client service and a desire to grow the RSM as one of Canada’s premiere museums.
As Director, you will work with a dedicated team of professionals and volunteers in order to deliver the museum’s mission, vision and mandate. You will successfully guide and coach the RSM’s world class personnel to further enhance visitor experience, both in Regina and at the T.rex Discovery Centre in Eastend, Saskatchewan. In addition to being responsible for museum operations, you will identify and secure new sources of funding including corporate sponsorship and support, and create opportunities to attract new visitors while retaining existing clientele.
Our ideal candidate will have superior interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate, influence, and build relationships. The Director must have demonstrated leadership skills in order to achieve the strategic direction and vision for the organization, including the ability to provide the necessary direction and accountability for the changes required to achieve that vision.
Typically, the knowledge and skills required to be successful in this role would have been obtained through the completion of a relevant post-graduate degree in business administration or a museum discipline, combined with management experience in a nonprofit, museum, heritage or cultural organization. Experience in business development, strategy development and/or change management would be considered an asset.
