Job Description

Posting:                                    Service Contract – Real Property Institute of Canada (RPIC)

 

Position Title:                Executive Director (contract for services)

 

Position Location:          Ottawa – from a home office, with some travel anticipated

 

Reports To:                   President/Chair of the RPIC Board of Directors

 

Contract Term:              Up to a two-year period, at an average of 37.5 hours per week, to be re-evaluated at six-month intervals

Nature and Scope:

RPIC is seeking an experienced, dynamic individual to execute the programs, policies and initiatives set by the Executive/Board of Directors, play a leadership role in managing day to day operations, expanding RPIC’s presence, enhancing RPIC’s branding and value to the Real Property Community and ensuring it is a high performing organization.

 

The ideal candidate brings experience in managing an Association and/or a Real Property related program or business line with annual budgets in excess of $1M. The ideal candidate is passionate about professional development and training work, has the skills and experience to work effectively with the Board of Directors and contract partners and is excellent at managing relationships with executives within the federal government, other levels of government, RPIC’s many partners and other professional associations. This contract is for those who are enthusiastic about pursuing opportunities for creating value; recruiting and managing volunteers; enhancing communication and outreach; and, leveraging technology to achieve organizational objectives.

 

 

Responsibilities/Duties Include:

Leadership

  • Participate with the Board of Directors in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization
  • Identify, assess and inform the Board of Directors of internal and external issues and opportunities that affect or enhance the organization
  • Act as a professional advisor to the Board of Directors on all aspects of the organization's activities
  • Foster effective teamwork between the Board and the Executive Director and between the Executive Director and the Institute’s contractor(s)
  • In addition to the President/Chair of the Board, act as a spokesperson for the organization

 

Operational Planning and Management

  • Oversee the Board governance and management
  • Develop annual operational plans which incorporate goals and objectives that work towards the strategic direction of the organization
  • Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization

 

Program Planning and Management

  • Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the organization's programs
  • Oversee institute management/event management services and other contracts
  • Monitor the delivery of the programs and contracted services of the Institute to maintain or improve quality

 

Financial Planning and Management

  • Work with the Treasurer and the Event Management Company on the development of a comprehensive budget and ensuring the long term financial viability of the Institute
  • Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the Board
  • Support the Treasurer in the development of monthly comprehensive financial reports for the Board

 

Volunteer Management

  • Plan, organize and promote the volunteer program

 

Communication/Community Relations and Advocacy

  • Represent the organization at related community activities to enhance the organization's community profile
  • Establish working relationships and collaborative arrangements with the real property community groups, partners and other professional organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization

 

Risk Management

  • Identify and evaluate the risks to the Institute and implement measures to control risks

 

 

Qualifications:

Education

  • Post Secondary Education (asset)

 

Professional Designation

  • Certification in Association Management (asset)

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to non-profit/volunteer organizations
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation applicable to voluntary sector
  • Knowledge of the real property community challenges and opportunities (asset)
  • Knowledge of financial management

 

Language Requirements
