Job Description

Manager, Membership & Development 

We  are  currently  searching  for  a  Manager,  Membership  &  Development  to  lead  the development and implementation of strategic revenue generation and membership development and servicing plans. This role will design and implement campaigns and initiatives to recruit and retain BCWF members in all membership categories as well as bring awareness to the organization`s mandate and programs through leading the provincial fundraising efforts from individuals, foundations and corporations to achieve the priority requirements of the BCWF. 

This is a new position involved in all levels of the department, working closely with the Director of Operations and supported by the Membership & Development team. 

Duties and Responsibilities will include:


•    Develop  and  implement  annual  Membership  and  Development  business  plans  and budgets that align with the BCWF Strategic Plan and address delivery of strategic, relevant, innovative and result-oriented membership recruitment and retention initiatives and achieve assertive revenue targets.

•    As  a  member  of  the  senior  management  team,  lead  to  build  and  strengthen  the Membership & Development team, creating a positive and supportive work environment while ensuring a high-performing, collaborative and highly engaged team.

•    Recruit, develop, and provide regular coaching and performance management for the Membership and Development team to effectively deliver on the annual plans.

•    Lead the development and maintenance of robust pipelines for all member, donor & partner segments within the department.

•    Provide leadership and expertise to continue to build philanthropy as a core competency of the BCWF.

•    Provide department-related subject matter expertise, coaching and advice to senior staff and applicable committees.  


•    Lead all development and fundraising initiatives, ensuring compliance with the goals and objectives of the BCWF and alignment with the ethical principles of CAGP and AFP.

•    Effectively and successfully integrate the BCWF`s mission, vision, strategic objectives and case for support in achieving organizational goals with prospects and supporters.

•    Develop and prioritize cultivation and solicitation strategies for all categories of prospects and provide direction to the development team.

•    Expand and diversify the BCWF donor base and secure on-going sponsorship and or grant funding for programs and new initiatives.

•    Deliver excellent briefing and coordination through all stages of the donor or partner cycle.

•    Develop   and   oversee   execution   of   an   annual   stewardship   and   donor/partner communications plan, identifying key communication vehicles and events for existing and potential donors and partners.

•    Review,  expand,  diversify,  procure  and  service  BCWF  Affinity  Partners,  program sponsors and corporate members.

•    Research, write and manage grants for various BCWF programs and priority initiatives.

•    Develop, implement and manage the sponsorship and fundraising components of the AGM and other applicable BCWF events and outreach activities.

•    Manage all development and fundraising financial protocols and related reporting.

•    Identify and create development and fundraising-related policies and procedures.

•    Work with Committees and Member Clubs to develop and implement strategic fund development initiatives.

•    Lead the development team on prospect research, information management, strategic writing, proposal development, activation, recognition and stewardship and ensure adherence to all applicable BCWF and charitable/industry standards.

•    Manage  all  required  development  and  fundraising-related  administrative  processes, supervise development staff and provide related support and reports to the Director of Operations and applicable Committees on the progress of the annual plan and team.

•    Collaborate  actively  with  internal  teams  to  ensure  appropriate  representation  of department staff at meetings and events. 


•    Lead all membership recruitment and retention initiatives, ensuring compliance with the goals, objectives and policies of the BCWF.

•    Manage  and  oversee  all  BCWF  membership  categories  including  Club  and  Direct Membership, Corporate Membership (Affinity Partners), Life Membership and Associate Membership.

•    Working in partnership with applicable committees, staff and Directors, develop and implement membership sales campaigns and solicit new members from all categories with a focus on Clubs.

•    Lead  the  development  and  implementation  of  membership  retention  strategies  and tactics. 

•    Provide a high level of customer service including building strong relationships with all types of members, as well as potential members, stakeholders and partners.

•    Manage    all    required    membership-related    administrative    processes,    supervise membership staff and provide related support and reports to the Director of Operations and applicable Committees on the progress of the annual plan and team.

•    Collaborate  actively  with  internal  teams  to  ensure  appropriate  representation  of department staff at meetings and events.


•    Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in a relevant discipline.

•    5 + years’ experience leading effective and successful fundraising and membership strategies and campaigns, specializing in relationship development and management and multi-channel revenue generation.

•    Demonstrated  ability  to  understand  the  needs  of  members,  donors,  3rd  Party fundraisers, and business partners in order to cultivate and sustain long-term relationships.

•    Experience working with a Board of Directors and a solid understanding of fundraising and governance issues and requirements within the charitable, non-profit sector.

•    Well-honed financial, human resources and business plan management expertise.

•    Understanding and adherence to AFP, CAGP and APRA`s code of Ethics, Policies and Procedures

•    CFRE   designation   and   involvement   in   related   membership   and   development professional associations are preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

•    Strong  personal alignment  with BCWF’s mission, goals and values, (applicants are strongly encouraged to review our website for further details).

•    Significant experience in major gifts and or corporate partnership fundraising with a successful track record of soliciting and closing multiple major gifts.

•    Big-picture, strategic thinker, also comfortable working at a detailed level with a high degree of accuracy and quality.

•    Experience in successfully recruiting, training and managing a team of development and membership professionals.

•    Persistence and perseverance to thrive in a complex organization with multiple priorities; ability to identify opportunities and focus on the positive.

•    Strong analytical skills and experience working with databases, preferably Raiser`s Edge.

•    Must have a go-getter attitude and lead by example with energy, positivity and the independence and drive to achieve identified results.

•    Must be creative to develop new ideas and initiatives, paired with tact, diplomacy and strong emotional intelligence.

•    Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including superior customer service attributes, a professional demeanor and a positive attitude. 

•    Must be extremely well organized, analytical, flexible and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.

•    Must  be  a  self-starter,  capable  of  working  well  independently  as  well  as  within  a dynamic, multi-faceted team environment.

•    Must be able to keep strict confidentiality and sign an oath of confidentiality.

•    Must be willing to travel throughout the province and work evenings, weekends and extended hours, where necessary, to accommodate activities, events and campaigns of the Federation. 

This is a permanent full time position based out of the BCWF office, conveniently located close to Hwy 1 and the Golden Ears Bridge.
