The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible to the Legal Services Board for the effective, efficient and economical management of the functions and activities of the Board and for the management of staff of the LSB. (S)he will deliver efficient and effective leadership for its three regional locations for the dliver of legal services. To assess and advise the Board of Directors on potential liabilities, the CEO must work closely with staff lawyers and panel lawyers to monitor representation of clients and ensure the accountability of counsel.
The successful candidate will be eligible to practice law in Nunavut and will be experienced in the high-level management necessary to run a business enterprise of both major income and expenditure operations with knowledge of the legal aid industry. Other attributes will include the appreciation of working in a northern and multi-cultural setting with a keen understanding of regional and community differences and diverse needs, and a broad-based knowledge of the judicial system, including an understanding of the role and dynamics of the legal aid system working within the private legal profession. The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience with administering significant client service obligations, solid financial acumen, policy development, assessment and evaluation, strong human resources management and information technology expertise.
