Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia (TLABC) requires a membership director who can articulate its vision, mission and objectives through strong and positive relations with members, sponsors and the legal community.
TLABC has a voluntary membership base of 1400+ legal professionals leading diverse practices throughout the province. Our members represent individuals rather than corporations, governments or other large entities. Practice areas include family, employment and immigration law, wills and estates, criminal defence and personal injury litigation. Founded in 1980, TLABC is a not-for-profit society with a proud history. Members are united with the goals of protecting the rights of individuals, ensuring access to the courts, preserving the jury system and promoting the highest standards in legal education.
The membership director will lead the association’s membership recruitment and retention efforts. As the primary point of contact, this position will assist members with practice-related services. The membership director is responsible for maintaining a highly accurate membership database and for timely membership and listserver fee renewals. The membership director will plan and market member events and outreach activities, while working within established budgets. This position reports to the Executive Director. Some events occur outside regular office hours, and some travel is occasionally required.
The ideal candidate is a creative, dynamic individual, who will represent the association in a highly professional manner. You are a team player with a positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic. You care about the details and possess strong organizational and time management skills to keep pace with the busy workload.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate must have at least five years of experience working in a not-for-profit membership-driven organization. You have exceptional listening, oral and written communication skills. You must be proficient with MS Office programs and have some knowledge of desktop publishing. Some knowledge of the legal profession is preferred. Previous event planning would be beneficial.
