Job Description

The CAMRT is searching for a Director of Finance and Administration to join it’s dynamic and cohesive senior management team. Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Finance and Administration is responsible for providing leadership and direction, as well as planning and maintaining oversight of the day-to-day financial, information technology, human resources and administration functions of the organization.

This position will build and sustain the capacity of the finance and administration department and provide exemplary stewardship of the organization’s resources through the establishment, monitoring and improvement of accounting, finance, IT, HR and administration systems, policies and procedures.

The Director of Finance & Administration will serve as the staff liaison to the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors, supporting the Treasurer in preparation for meetings of the Finance Committee. The Director is also the main liaison for the CAMRT Foundation, assisting with budgeting, reporting and auditing, and spearheading initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of the Foundation, when appropriate.

The following staff positions report to the Director of Finance and Administration:

  • Coordinator, Finance & Administration

  • Finance Officer

  • IT & Web Manager

     

 Required Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

  • Post secondary education in Accounting;

  • Completion of a recognized accounting designation, or the equivalent combination of education and work experience;

  • Minimum of 5 years’ prior experience in a similar role, with emphasis on financial management, monitoring and reporting;

  • Strong financial acumen, knowledge of Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations (ASNFPO), budget development and administration, financial forecasting, analysis and reporting, and investments management;

  • Knowledge of relevant federal and provincial legislation affecting not-for-profit organizations (including but not limited to the Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act, Ontario Employment Standards Act, Canadian Human Rights Act and the Canadian Income Tax Act);

  • Superior proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office products (especially advanced Excel), accounting packages (preferably Great Plains Dynamics and Management Reporter) and databases (preferably Salesforce);

  • Courses or certificates in financial management for not-for-profit organizations, human resource management and IT are considered an asset;

  • Broad understanding of Information Technology at a strategic level in order to be able to identify and implement new IT-driven solutions to enhance the delivery of services and internal effectiveness of the association.

  • Exceptional attention to detail;

  • Strong project management experience; ability to plan, organize and lead the implementation of plans and processes;

  • Strong experience and knowledge of group health benefits programs, and recruitment processes and techniques;

  • Ability to lead and build a team approach in the work environment;

  • Ability to work effectively with others;

  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize;

  • Strong ability to think strategically, critically and to problem solve;

  • Advanced communication skills, both verbal and written, in English; French is considered an asset.

  • Experience working in a not-for-profit setting, ideally an association environment, and reporting to a Board of Directors is considered an asset;
