Membership & Development Manager

GENERAL DESCRIPTION & OVERVIEW

The Membership & Development Manager is responsible for the development and implementation of membership plans for retention of current members, and growth of new members at the Ontario Association of Optometrists.

Promoting the benefits of the Association with external industry organizations is also within the scope of the Manager’s work.  Establishing and building partnerships using a collaborative approach to generate and secure revenue streams for the association, and revenue to offset association programing.

Reporting to the Director of Member Services and Professional Affairs, the Manager is a self-starting, motivated person who excels at customer relations, and has the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both members and industry partners. This role includes improving member benefit offerings to maintain a high level of member satisfaction, part of a strategic plan to increase and enhance overall membership. Development of membership marketing and promotional materials, including applications, welcome kits and other collateral fall within the Manager’s work.

CORE RESPONSIBLITIES

  1. Membership Retention and Recruitment

  • Develop and implement membership plans for retention of current members and growth of new members, according to a work plan of activities and Board goals

  • Manage, track and evaluate all membership and renewal activities, including new members, renewal and potential member mailings

  • Develop membership marketing and promotional materials, including applications, welcome kits, certificates, membership cards, surveys and other collateral in collaboration with Communications area.

  • Work with Finance to ensure financial tracking of membership.

  • Oversee exhibit details for OAO booth at Symposium and at regional meetings to promote the Association and its benefits and services.

  1. Member/Partner Data Management

  • Track all partnership/exhibit details for each industry partner.

  • Review, analyze and interpret membership and retention statistics and member research from surveys to market recommendations to Board.

  1. Partnerships

  • Working with the Director, Member Services and Professional Affairs, and the Education Program Manager, identify partnership benefits for external industry organizations for increasing non-dues revenues to offset program expenses and generate new revenue streams.

  • Support the development of a strategic plan for expanding the partnership program, improving partnership benefit offerings, and increasing overall revenue base.

  • Develop promotional materials to market the benefits of partnerships.

  • Create prospect target list and recruit new corporate partners.

  • Ensure all partners are accurately acknowledged and track with fulfillment of MOUs.

  1. Other

  • Manage research to measure and evaluate member attitudes and perceptions regarding OAO membership and to solicit feedback on continuous improvement of existing benefit offerings to members

  • Work with the Director, Member Services and Professional Affairs to identify new benefits, programs and services to promote to members and track uptake.

     

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • A good knowledge of marketing, management, administration, planning, finance, market research and member relationship management skills and techniques

  • Skilled at writing promotional membership materials

  • Able to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relations with colleagues, members and industry partners

  • Strong project management and organizational skills

  • Computer proficiency with ability to navigate and maintain database records

  • Ability to nurture ongoing relationships with corporate sponsors to ensure solid retention each year

  • Articulate and comfortable following up on lapsed memberships, and approaching prospective members and corporate partners and industry partners

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate with a business or marketing degree

  • Minimum three years marketing experience, preferably with a membership organization

  • IT literate, familiar using word processing, databases, spreadsheets, project management software and web applications, including email, e-marketing, e-survey.

  • Able to attend events and other off-site functions
