WPC is seeking an energetic, strategic leader to fill the position of Executive Director. The Executive Director acts as the public face of the organization, promoting WPC’s programs and services to its members, stakeholders and the public. The Executive Director collaborates with the Board of Directors in developing and implementing a vision and strategic plan. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides overall direction and leadership for the organization and ensures that programs and services offered by WPC contribute to its mission and goals.
As the Executive Director, you will be recognized as a credible, authentic and inspiring leader with a passion for the wood preservation industry and a driver of change in a complex environment. You will promote collaboration across disciplines and geographies while working with broader stakeholder groups and partners to position WPC as a valued voice in treated wood dialogues. A results-oriented strategist, you will work to ensure WPC truly represents the wood preservation industry in Canada and around the world and delivers tangible value to it’s members. Your experience in advocacy, coalition building, and the development of innovative solutions will serve you well in a changing regulatory environment, ensuring continued relevance for WPC in areas of policy, advocacy, and member services.
As an ideal candidate, your outstanding interpersonal and team building skills, coupled with business acumen, have led to continued successes within a variety of settings. You are a big-picture, systems thinker with experience working with Boards, government representatives and leading change and shaping the future. Flexible and adaptable, you are looking to play a key leadership role in shaping the voice of the wood preservation industry in Canada and beyond.
Bilingualism is preferred. Intermittent travel is required within Canada and abroad.
Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:
A relevant undergraduate degree e.g. Forestry, Engineering, Communications
5+ years experience in the wood products sector
Leadership: Experience with strategic planning. Previous experience working with a Board of Directors and knowledge of governance practices and standards would be an asset.
Operational Planning and Management: Proven experience crafting policies and procedures, complying with government regulations, and supporting the operation of a governing body.
Human Resources Planning and Management: Experience in effective staff recruitment, orientation and training, and performance management.
Program Planning and Management: Proven ability to manage a budget of approximately $750K and knowledge of financial management and an understanding of budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.
Government Relations: Experience dealing with municipal, provincial and federal governments in areas relating to the priorities of WPC.
Community Relations/Advisory: Skilled and confident as a public speaker with the ability to promote the association and the products manufactured by the members.
