Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer

PHE Canada is seeking an Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer (ED&CEO) ignited by our vision and values. The ED&CEO will possess the leadership drive, skills and entrepreneurial spirit to expand charitable events and giving, excite new government, corporate, and NGO partners about our work and engage our members and stakeholders. As the leader of our staff team, the ED&CEO is responsible for promoting individual and team growth and managing the effective governance and administration of the association in accordance with the strategic direction and operational framework of the association. The ED&CEO will be a dynamic, results-oriented professional, with strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, and whose ability to make decisions, direct and inspire others is exceptional. The ED&CEO is the most senior staff position of the association and reports directly to the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and support effective association governance
  • Work with the Board of Directors leveraging their strengths and networks
  • Supervise and monitor the association’s management and all national office activities
  • Ensure effective human resource policies and practices are established and followed
  • Ensure sound fiscal management for the association’s financial stability and growth
  • Increase charitable events and giving profile of the organization
  • Foster a lean and responsive workplace culture supportive of staff professional growth
  • Develop and maintain partnerships and public relationships
  • Increase the association’s outreach activities with non-traditional audiences
  • Liaise with government agencies and like-minded associations in support of our current strategic plan
  • Investigate and secure opportunities for the development of new initiatives with government agencies, foundations and corporations
  • Represent the association’s interest with media

Qualifications:

Education and experience

  • Post-secondary education in the area of business administration, communications, education, health, recreation, or related discipline required. Masters in Business Administration or Project Management is an asset
  • Minimum of eight (8) years experience of association leadership, which includes; managing association systems and functions, working with strategic plans, supervising staff, overseeing marketing campaigns, charitable giving campaigns or events, and/or program delivery

Competencies and knowledge

  • Strong conceptual and working knowledge of the education, health, sport and/or recreation sectors, both nationally and provincially
  • Familiar with the operation and governance responsibilities of not-for-profit organizations
  • Experience with successful regional or national charitable giving campaigns and/or events
  • Experience with successful fundraising, grant writing, proposal development
  • Experience prospecting and closing corporate partnerships
  • Excellent financial management skills, including the development and monitoring of budgets and cash flow
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to communicate in both official languages is preferred
  • Excellent leadership, management and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent ability to transition between strategic thinking and implementation
  • Proven ability to lead and work collaboratively with volunteers, funders & clients
  • Proven ability to positively engage and interact with the media
  • Proven ability to access and prioritize conflicting demands and work within tight deadlines
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain a professional network
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office, Internet and web-based technology (social media)
  • Proven ability to mentor/coach staff towards professional growth goals
