The Association of School Transportation Services of British Columbia (ASTSBC) is member-based association established to build a strong networking community in the school transportation sector in British Columbia (BC).  The association represents the voice for school transportation in BC. The 100 plus members are from a wide range of service providers both private and public providing school transportation in BC to over 130,000 children safely.

An exciting opportunity for an exceptional Leader to further the vision of this grass roots organization that has been the voice of School Transportation in BC.

As ASTSBC’s Association Manager, First and foremost, you have a unique mix of skills including the ability to provide long-term, visionary thinking while possessing the tactical skills to run the day-to-day operations of this organization.

Well-regarded in the association’s community, your skillset will be used to continue building and maintaining constructive relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders including members, affiliated associations, business community, government, media, and the public. 

Exercising political acuity in advocating for ASTSBC’s members with senior levels of government, and ensure the development of strategies, tools and resources to support our members for an ever changing industry.

Ensuring effective governance, growth and financial sustainability of the association, the Association Manager provides leadership for projects, public and government relations strategies, representing the needs and interests of the members of the School Transportation Industry.

The Association Manager is accountable to assist in the development, and help in carrying out the strategic and operational plans, the financial performance goals, and all objectives and strategies to achieve positive business results for the Association while ensuring adherence to policies governing confidentiality, privacy, conflict of interest and intellectual proprietorship while monitoring the organization’s overall policy, governance and internal controls framework for improvement opportunities and effective functioning.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Non Profit Management Education/certification

  • Demonstrated abilities as an effective change agent, collaborator and strategic thinker

  • A proven manager and team builder who can execute the vision of a multi-disciplinary elected team.

  • Creative, entrepreneurial and able to adapt to changes proactively and positively

  • Exceptional communications and relationship-building skills, with both internal and external stakeholders

  • Ability to effectively lever technology and social media to advance the objectives of the organization and improve the business model

  • Experience and expertise working across levels of government and strong government relations experience

  • Knowledge of current challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the Association and School Transportation sector

  • Proven project management skills and demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement

  • Significant experience with a non-profit, membership-based organization in a related field or the broader public sector, including in a management and supervisory capacity

  • Experience in reporting to an independent Board of Directors, board governance and policy development.

  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for academic requirements

  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to manage competing and diverse priorities

  • Proficient in working in Microsoft Office Suite of programs, especially Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook

  • Diplomatic; strong problem-solving skills

  • Attention to detail, Content Management experience

  • Excellent proofreading skills

  • Ability to work well with all stakeholders

  • Experience managing and building databases, and web sites

     

    Please note this position will start off as an average .5 and expand if growth warrants it. The successful candidate should be located within British Columbia.
