B.C.’s original fish farmers date back to only the mid-1970s and 1980s. The industry was initially experimental in the 1970s becoming an organized industry in B.C. in the 1980s and marked in 1984 by the formation of the BC Salmon Farmers Association.
As the organization’s most senior staff role, the Executive Director is accountable for executing the strategic direction and engagement initiatives through collaboration with the Board and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Association. The primary focus for the Executive Director is to provide strategic leadership in the development and implementation of organizational strategies and programs in supporting the aquaculture sector in British Columbia. The Executive Director will be tasked with furthering public trust and advancing the reputation of the aquaculture industry through vigorous government advocacy initiatives. The role requires an individual with an exceptional understanding of the British Columbia political landscape at both a municipal and provincial level.
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned hands-on manager with a broad mix of general management, government relations, communications and public relations expertise whose knowledge and career experience has produced outstanding results in their previous organizations. Effective strategic planning acumen will be complemented by demonstrated leadership skills and proven consultative and interpersonal competencies. Superior ability to create a positive and enthusiastic work environment are hallmarks of a suitable candidate.
