Director, Strategic Marketing and Communications

Located in Ottawa, Ontario, the new Director, Strategic Marketing and Communications will play a key role within the AIC Marketing and Communications stream of activity and will be a key member of the AIC Management Team. Working with a small team of direct reports and reporting to the CEO, this individual will work closely with volunteer member committees, staff at the AIC National Office and with Provincial affiliate associations, and will be responsible for the continuous development and implementation of communications plans of all types, across all platforms, in support of the CEO and Board in achieving the vision and strategic goals of the Institute. The Director will promote the interests and services of the AIC to the general public, industry and government by leading an integrated strategic planning process, issues management, public relations research, media content analysis, and analyzing public and stakeholder interests. Raising public and member awareness of AIC programs and services through the design and delivery of effective marketing and communications programs and materials will be key, as will developing responses to media and public enquiries regarding relevant issues of the day. The Director will lead media relations and member engagement strategies, in addition to overseeing the publication of the quarterly AIC publication.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated their strategic acuity and business communications talents in a leadership role in a business or association setting, leveraging a university degree in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent combination of education and senior level experience. Possessing a demonstrated capacity to develop and implement communications, marketing, advocacy and membership engagement plans and programs, particularly within professional not-for-profit associations, will be valuable. The role will require outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies – members, industry associations, stakeholders, provincial, national and international partners, senior government and the media. Excellent communications skills, both written and spoken, are necessary (bilingualism strongly preferred), as is the ability to develop and coordinate multiple projects and events.  A consensus builder, the candidate will have superior presentation, influencing and diplomatic skills in leading and managing their team and their various agendas.
