Incorporated in 1975, the CFA is a proactive issues driven association located in Ottawa.  The strength of the association comes from involvement of industry’s top management, a strong government relations program, effective committees and programs, collaborations with other organizations, and industry participation.

 

Job Description

The ideal candidate will have an association background and experience and have obtained a Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation, or willing to obtain a CAE, from the Canadian Society of Association Executives.  He/she will have a good command of English and communications, (French would be an asset). The position reports directly to the Board of Directors and operates with a minimum of supervision. The Executive Director directs the development, delivery and evaluation of government relations, industry programs and services to fulfill the association’s mission and objectives.  The role will  influence the direction of the association, recruit and support volunteers’ participation and efforts, and guide the progress to achieve objectives.  The role has the potential to be a full-time or part-time position.  

 

Executive Director’s Responsibilities:

Oversee the management and day-to-day operations of the association and work with a part-time Administrative Assistant.  

 

Forge critical relationships and escalate the most important issues and programs.

 

Successful volunteer recruitment.

 

Communicate and work with the Board of Directors, committees, coalitions, program leaders, members, government and other organizations to keep them informed and provide updates to members on the activities of the association.

 

Maintain an effective Government Relations program and protect the interests of the CFA as an association and lobby group.  Provide assistance to government and request assistance from government to support the industry.

 

Plan and manage the Annual Conference, Annual General Meeting, Board of Directors Meetings, Issues Meetings and Committee Meetings.

 

Membership retention and recruitment which includes communication on issues impacting the industry and value of the association. Visit both member and non-member facilities, to meet with key influences of those organizations, with assistance from the Board of Directors.
