Finance Officer (Part Time)

Life is a complex journey – and navigating through its big transitions can be just as complex. And when you’re experiencing these natural changes in your relationships, at work or school, or with your family, it’s important that you have a solid support system.

We’re the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC), and we’re here to help families and individuals navigate life, through all stages of the life experience.

Founded in 1988, we are the professional association representing over 4,400 Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs) in our province. Every counsellor who receives this voluntary designation has met specific education and training criteria and has committed themselves to practice according to an ethical code of conduct and standards of practice.

Currently, we’re looking for an established finance professional to join our team as a part time Finance Officer

That’s where you come in.

If you have experience in the financial management of not-for-profit organizations, and are at the stage in your career where you’re looking for a flexible work opportunity within an organization doing meaningful work for your community, then this could be your next role.

About The Position:

As our new Finance Officer, you will enjoy a multi-faceted, hands-on role within our organization. You will lead and tactically execute a variety of finance activities including day-to-day accounting, financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting, and regular and ad hoc reporting. You will work closely with the volunteer Regional Chairs, and senior management to provide sound financial guidance, and will facilitate our yearly audit process.

Specifically, your role will involve:

  • Day-to-day accounting – overseeing BCACC’s chart of accounts and all general ledgers, monitoring and ensuring all expenditures are consistently aligned with the budget, managing all accounts payable and receivable in Sage 50, preparing all reconciliations, and providing backup function for our payroll and timesheet system.
  • Budgeting and forecasting – overseeing the annual budget process in conjunction with the senior leadership team, and managing the financial forecasting in partnership with the senior leadership team.
  • Financial reporting – analyzing financial data metrics and regularly presenting financial reports to the Executive Director and senior management team; creating and communicating monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and analyzing variances from budget; providing ad hoc reports to senior management and project teams as needed.
  • Audit – preparing all audit working papers and coordinating external audit activity.
  • Finance and Audit Committee and Board of Directors – attending quarterly Finance and Audit committee meetings, and Board meetings at request of the Executive Director, to provide accurate and timely financial information and advice.

Your knowledge and expertise, coupled with your strong communication and interpersonal skills, will allow you to deliver complex financial information and provide sound financial guidance to our team, no matter their level of financial expertise. In helping our team understand both the details, and the bigger picture, you’ll quickly become a vital resource to our organization.

Additionally, you’ll thrive as part of our team because you:

  • Are flexible and adaptable – you know when to go with the flow, but also know (and have the confidence to) stand your ground in support of the organization’s financial health.
  • Enjoy both the strategic and the tactical – you enjoy looking at the big picture to determine financial needs from organizational goals, but equally enjoy doing the hands-on work of day-to-day accounting.
  • Are focused and analytical – you love digging into the details, interpreting financial statements and explaining variances. You enjoy putting your head down, focusing on the tasks at hand, and coming up with accurate solutions and explanations.
  • Are a team player – we have a strong-minded team with a great sense of humour. You’re the type of person who will appreciate the opportunity to work collaboratively with a team like ours!

This is an excellent position for someone interested in using their wealth of financial experience in a flexible and easygoing work environment, where they can make a big impact on a small but mighty team.

If you’re looking for an opportunity to continue doing complex and interesting work, for an organization making a meaningful difference, then we can’t wait to meet you.

Working with BCACC

As part of our team of 13, you’ll enjoy a healthy, cohesive, and collaborative team environment that encourages self-evaluation, self-reflection, and growth. We’re a supportive group with a good sense of humour, in a flexible work environment.

This is a part-time (25 hours/week) permanent position, with a start date of January 6th, 2020.  You will work out of our office in beautiful Victoria, BC. Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 9 am – 4:30 pm, and we’ll work with you to determine a schedule that fits. Some flexibility will be required during peak periods (audit, budget season, etc.)

You’ll earn a competitive salary, with generous benefits, RRSP matching, a wellness fund, and professional development fund. Vacation will start at 3 weeks.
