Executive Director

A passion for building capacity and supporting vulnerable individuals coupled with a strategic perspective and innovative thinking are key characteristics of the candidate who will enjoy the position of Executive Director of Distress and Crisis Ontario (DCO).

An Ontario-based provincial association; we are seeking a proven leader to guide the organization forward according to its organizational priorities of sustainability, enhancing member benefits and services, relationship building and strategic marketing and communications.  DCO continues its commitment as a recognized leader in promoting collaboration and building capacity in organizations that provide distress and crisis response and suicide prevention support.

DCO is seeking leadership skills that demonstrate confidence, diplomacy and integrity and an individual who can balance the needs and requirements of our member organizations with an outcomes-focused perspective.  As Executive Director, this individual demonstrates critical competencies in four broad categories: commitment to results, business perspective, leading change and motivating.

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for ongoing operations based on the strategic priorities and budget while enabling the board to carry out its governance functions. Managing a staff and contract team of five individuals, with full responsibility for all operations and financial management, the Executive Director focuses on promoting association programs in a cost-effective manner while maintaining a high level of quality.  Transparent communications with all committees, association members, as well as partnership development with legislators, representative of the not-for-profit sector and volunteers are important components of the position.

Qualifications of the successful candidate will include a Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of five years’ experience in a senior management position. A Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation with a minimum of three years’ experience in an executive position would be a significant asset.

DCO hopes to appoint an Executive Director for a minimum initial term of 3 years, with a subsequent permanent extension. Currently, the position includes compensation commensurate with experience and a minimum of thirty hours weekly. Some travel is included, and the position is flexible with a formal business office located in Kitchener, ON and home office availability.
