Director of Brand Management

It’s not every day you come across an opportunity like this: a chance to work with an organization that has a direct impact on the total Canadian economy and the ability to reimagine how that organization is seen by its members, and Canadians across the country. Oh, and did we mention the REALLY big ships?

If you’re ready for a dynamic, career defining role in an incredibly impactful organization, then we can’t wait to hear from you.

What you’ll be doing

We’re calling this role Brand Manager, but the scope of your work and impact will be so much bigger. Your work will fundamentally change the manner in which our organization communicates to our membership (which consists of the 17 largest ports in Canada), and wider audience across Canada. This is an opportunity to reassess and reimagine our entire communications and marketing function, bring new and innovative ideas to the table, and embrace a culture of cohesion, continuous learning, and creativity.

Practically speaking, you will:

  • Restart and manage our internal and external newsletters, including writing/editing/distributing etc.
  • Build and expand our current social media presence, including bringing new ideas and methods to increase/modernize our reach
  • Lead the initiative to completely overhaul and rebuild our current website and overall web presence
  • Help run our major events, including the annual conference, by, producing material, assisting with logistics, attendance etc. – whatever is required to make each event a resounding success
  • Ensure a strong connection between the associations and its membership through all communication channels, and the development of additional service offerings (i.e. members-only portal, toolkits etc.)
  • Travel across Canada to visit our member ports, attend our annual conference, and run other events as they happen

Working with the Association of Canadian Port Authorities

The Association of Canadian Port Authorities has been in existence for over 60 years, representing the 17 Canada Port Authorities located across the country. Together, these ports account for more than $400 billion towards the Canadian economy. It is without exaggeration when we say that when you work with us, you will impact one of the biggest economic levers in the country.

This is a full-time permanent position, working Monday to Friday during core business hours, with flexibility. We’re offering a highly attractive annual salary of $75,000 - $90,000/year commensurate with experience, along with three weeks vacation, Christmas shutdown, and a funding package that you can self-direct to an RSP and benefits package of your choice.

Travel throughout Canada will be required for this role (about 10% of your total time), so a willingness and availability to do so is a must. We are also a small office (just four people!) so fit is huge. We need someone who truly embraces innovation, collaboration and cohesion, continuous learning; someone who is excited to thrive in a high-pressure environment and bring positivity to everything they do no matter what the day throws at them.

What Makes You an Ideal Candidate

Excitement and passion for everything you’ve read so far will go a long way, but your success in this role will also depend on the following skills and experiences:

  • Bilingual French/English skills are an absolute MUST
  • Experience in a communications, marketing, or similar brand management role
  • Experience in a writing heavy role where you were responsible for producing news releases, op eds, newsletters, magazine articles, blog posts etc.
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic social media campaigns on diverse platforms
  • Strong computer skills, and proficiency with MS Office, basic HTML, WordPress etc.
  • Experience with graphic/web design would be a strong asset
  • Post-secondary education in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or related field
