Established in 1963, the BC Marine Terminal Operators Association (BCMTOA) is actively engaged with all its stakeholders to ensure that Canada’s Asia-Pacific Gateway delivers sustainable, competitive terminal capacity to meet Canada’s growing international trade in exports and imports. Through its mandate, to improve the economic and environmental viability of BC’s marine terminals and to invest in and promote the value of the port industry to local communities, the province, and the nation, BCMTOA acts as the voice of marine terminals in BC and is dedicated to the safe, high quality, and reliable movement of goods through BC’s ports.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director utilizes significant knowledge and expertise in the marine industry to further raise the profile of BCMTOA and is responsible for directing and executing on all BCMTOA activities. Additionally, the incumbent will act as a key liaison to internal and external stakeholders including the BC Maritime Employers Association; the BC Chamber of Shipping; the Greater Vancouver Gateway Council; relevant municipal, provincial, and federal government agencies; port authorities; and BCMTOA’s members. As the primary conduit for BCMTOA’s interaction with its members, government, and its external stakeholders, the ideal candidate will bring exceptional skills in the areas of advocacy, communication, negotiation, and governance gained within a complex organization or association. A proactive, tech-savvy individual, the Executive Director will possess a minimum of 10 years senior management experience in the marine transportation or a similar supply chain/logistics sector, a relevant post-secondary degree, or equivalent or greater combination of education, training, and experience, and be comfortable interacting with and being accountable to a Board of Directors. The individual will bring proven success in building effective relationships with a wide variety of interested stakeholders, developing and executing strategic advocacy campaigns, all while managing good governance and driving business opportunities and revenue growth for members.
