Director, Finance

Girl Guides of Canada–Guides du Canada (GGC) empowers every girl in Guiding to discover herself and be everything she wants to be. As GGC moves into a new era of financial management across the country we are seeking candidates who will embrace the opportunity to evolve this new way of work.

GGC is actively searching for our next Director, Finance.

The Director, Finance will play a key role in maximizing resources and ensuring that the organization is well – run, high performing, agile and focused on delivering excellent results. The successful candidate will work to advance the strategic priorities through continuously seeking opportunities to create improvements and efficiencies, while working collectively with the team to continue to evolve in response to community need and through the leadership and vision of our members, staff, supporters and volunteers.

Reporting in to the Chief Operations Officer, this position will oversee a range of operational business support function for the Finance division of GGC nation-wide, which includes Accounting, Unified Banking, Revenues and Budgets, Financial Reporting and Payroll.

 

The Director, Finance will:

  • Proactively support Chief Operating Officer (COO) and work cohesively in partnership with the senior leadership team.
  • Lead the development and delivery of the budget process that supports the overarching strategic and operational plans that deliver the vision and mission of the organization.
  • Contribute to the creation of the organization’s strategic plan and set strategic priorities and actions to fulfill the organization’s strategic objectives.
  • Facilitate the management of all financial matters within the guiding community across the country including the management of issues of financial misappropriation.
  • Oversee the development of all provincial and national annual budget and semi-annual projections for presentation to the Board of Directors, provide oversight and monitoring of financial results.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of Financial strategy to ensure that GGC has modern, effective information systems that support the delivery of its objectives.
  • Lead, manage and develop a competent and highly motivated Finance department that is focused on strategic goals, works collaboratively and maintains a credible professional presence with managers, staff and volunteers and is proactive in supporting all managers in their objectives.
  • Promote a climate that encourages innovation, optimizes the use of technology to streamline systems, enhances service delivery and reduces costs.
  • Responsible for forecasting technical and qualitative aspects of predicting future financial performance of GGC using historical trends and likely changes in operations.
  • Review the financial analysis and advises senior leadership of relevant insights.
  • Ensure alignment between GGC Strategy and planned use of funds; establish recommendations on allocation of funds.

You are the model candidate if you:

  • Have a professional Financial accounting designation CPA or CGA or CMA.
  • Hold a degree in Commerce, Accounting or related field.
  • Have a minimum 10 years of senior management experience in progressively more complex role.
  • Have demonstrated expertise in GAAP and ability to effectively interface with senior management, staff and GGC’s Board of Directors.
  • Have a proven track record of success facilitating progressive organizational change and development within an organization.
  • Have strong mentoring, coaching experience to lead a team with diverse levels of expertise.
  • Have superior management skills, ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers.
  • Are energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive; a team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical finance and operational initiatives.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to gain respect and support across an organization, strong leadership skills, the ability to be simultaneously strategic and tactical, and must possess a service orientation as well as strong attention to detail.
  • Have the ability to operate as an effective tactical as well as strategic analytical thinker and detail oriented.
  • Have advanced experience using Sage 300.
  • Have demonstrated computer software proficiency with MS Office; Office 365, advanced Excel.
  • Have excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines.
  • Have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • You embody the attributes of our core DNA – welcoming, imaginative, courageous and enthusiastic.

Charitable non-profit organization experience is an asset.

This position will include occasional travel and weekend work for meetings.
