Workforce Development Manager

Purpose/Objective:

The Workforce Development Manager willl be responsible for career-related activities within policies established by the Board of Directors and Governance Committee.

The central objective of this contract position is to promote and coordinate the clients activities aimed at increasing the number of seafarers working in the Canadian domestic fleet. The Contractor reports to and will support the Senior Director, Government and Stakeholder Relations, to achieve the clients overall priorities.

More broadly, the Contractor will contribute to the following three objectives:

  1. Increase government awareness of domestic- ship owner labour issues and promote the development of policies, programs and regulations that support seafarer recruitment and skills development.
  2. Position the client on a national front to lead on marine workforce issues, consistent with the client’s strategic goal to be the “leading voice” for the marine commerce.
  3. Broaden awareness of careers opportunities in the marine sector, which benefits all the clients’ members.

Position Requirements:

  • University degree, preferably with emphasis on human resources, political science, business or public policy administration;
  • Strong report-writing skills and oral presentation experience;
  • Experience in research, statistical and qualitative analysis of data;
  • Minimum of seven to ten years’ work experience in corporate or government human relations
  • Experience in project management and career-related programming;
  • Ability to recognize priorities and experience in working in a responsive, team-based environment in a supporting role;
  • Good knowledge of industry practices would be highly-desirable;
  • Fluency in English, with French considered a strong asset.
