Executive Director

For more than 40 years, United Way Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo has been guided by the vision that everyone in our community should have the opportunity to reach their full potential.  We support agencies and programs that improve the quality of life for seniors, youth, children, families and disadvantaged citizens of our community.  We strengthen the capacity of social profit organizations to ensure they are able to respond to changing demands.

The Executive Director (ED) is the leader of the organization, responsible for establishing a vision for community impact that is achieved through the efforts of a diverse team of high-performing leaders, staff, and volunteers alike. The ED is a transformational leader, and will lead the UWFMWB team through a time of change and uncertainty. They will be the face of the organization with both internal and external stakeholders, providing vision and strategy for the organization as it moves forward.

The ED is the Chief Mobilizer; s/he leverages the power of relationships and networks, and works across private, public and corporate sectors to improve conditions in the community.  The ED possesses a high level of broad business and management skills and is effective at generating resources and financial support for the organization. The ED is dedicated to shared and measurable goals for the common good – creating, resourcing, scaling and leveraging strategies for broad investment and impact. The ED is the steward of brand and understands his/her role in growing and protecting the reputation of United Way. The ED is responsible for building trust in United Way and its relevance in the community. The ED values network and strives to leverage United Way’s breadth of community presence, relationships, and strategy. 

 

The ED of the United Way Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo will be a committed advocate for the region and its diverse people. S/he will have substantial experience working in the social profit sector, including in progressive management roles. They will have proven strategic leadership and management experience in fund distribution, fundraising, administration, communications, or marketing, and a demonstrated track record of working across multiple sectors. The ED will be an open minded and innovative thinker, with proven ability to lead a high functioning team.
