Chief Executive Officer

Results Driven Agriculture Research (RDAR) is a not-for-profit organization that will continually consult with Alberta’s crop and livestock producers to set research priorities and distribute funds. Its mandate is: to support results driven agriculture research priorities and programs that will increase competitiveness and profitability of Alberta’s agriculture industry. Arm’s length from the provincial government, RDAR will be responsible for allocating $37 million per year to research funded from a grant provided primarily from Alberta Agriculture and Forestry and a contribution from the Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP).

RDAR is looking for a visionary leader to take on the role of Chief Executive Officer. Providing organizational executive leadership and strategic direction, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of RDAR’s strategic priorities and operational excellence. The CEO directs the overall planning, coordination and control of all RDAR functions in accordance with the objectives, policies and plans approved by the Board. Within this role, the CEO acts as the primary policy advisor to the Board and carries out all of the decisions of the Board which apply to its administration and which are referred to in the contract and detailed job description.

As the ideal candidate for this role, you will have a university degree (Masters preferred) in business, economics or related field combined with a minimum of 15 years of progressive related management experience culminating in a senior executive position working with a Board of Directors. You have exceptional business and political acumen demonstrating an understanding of the intricacies of the environment in which RDAR operates. You have in-depth knowledge and understanding of systems of financial accountability, budget planning and financial controls, as well as contract management, grant management, business planning and accountability processes, and performance management systems. You are results-orientated with strong vision for achieving success. You demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, and collaborate strategically with a wide variety of stakeholders, and to balance the needs and interests of diverse groups.  You are a proven leader with a commitment to create, support and sustain an environment that enables staff to achieve results and to develop and build organizational capacity for the future.
