Assistant Deputy Minister - Strategic Priorities and Initiatives

Assistant Deputy Minister
Strategic Priorities and Initiatives
Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions
Victoria BC

The BC Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions has overall responsibility for the development of a coherent, accessible, and culturally safe mental health and addictions system that is effective for individuals and families throughout the province. As the only dedicated, standalone ministry of its kind in Canada, we bring mental health and addictions into focus to address some of society’s most complex, misunderstood, and stigmatized issues. Through our mandate, we lead the transformation needed across government to modernize the mental health and addictions continuum of care for all British Columbians to reach their potential and thrive in their communities.

To achieve this, the ministry works in collaboration with a variety of agencies to strengthen social supports and services that address mental health and problematic substance use. The ministry undertakes a whole-government, multi-systems approach in partnership with other ministries, Indigenous peoples, service delivery partners, researchers, local and federal levels of government, families, youth, advocates, and people with lived and living experience.

The Assistant Deputy Minister leads responses to urgent mental health, substance use and addictions issues within the province, including the escalated response to the province's overdose emergency and complex treatment, recovery and substance use initiatives. The Assistant Deputy Minister also represents the ministry for the public health emergency response to COVID-19 as well as implements aspects of A Pathway to Hope, the provincial mental health and addictions roadmap.

We are seeking an innovative and collaborative leader to join our executive team and to lead the ministry’s Strategic Priorities and Initiatives division. We are looking for someone skilled at fostering strategic alliances and working collaboratively with a broad spectrum of internal and external partners. We want an executive with strategic orientation who can manage high profile and complex issues and has the insight to manage stakeholder relationships and balance interests with exceptional diplomacy and integrity. All with the goal to ensure mental health, substance use and addictions services are accessible and available for British Columbians, especially vulnerable individuals and families.

Based in Victoria, the position allows you to leverage your leadership skills, passion, and expertise with a ministry that holds core values of reconciliation, collaboration, innovation, empowerment and respect. If you are an effective communicator who excels in strategic planning, innovative approaches to transformation and fostering a positive work environment and you are looking for an opportunity to help shape the future of our province and make life better for British Columbians, the role of Assistant Deputy Minister may be the ideal position for you. We look forward to your application!

The successful candidate will be required to consent to a criminal record check.
