General Manager

Based in Kitchener, Ontario, Turkey Farmers of Ontario (TFO) represents 176 turkey farmers across the province. TFO is proud of this producer-run, producer-funded organization that has been achieving success in the turkey industry for over 45 years, and will continue to ensure humane treatment and care of the turkeys while providing safe, high quality food to consumers for many years to come.  TFO works with farmers, government, and strategic partners and stakeholders to effectively manage turkey supply, increase consumption, and ensure public trust in Ontario’s turkey industry.

Working in close collaboration with the Board of Directors and employees, the General Manager will provide overall direction for the organization, and act as the ambassador and strategic leader for the organization and the industry. Reporting to the TFO Board of Directors, the GM will provide leadership and vision for the organization (6 staff, $1.5 million budget), building capacity and ensuring that its members’ interests are protected and advocated for. With a solid, stable base, TFO’s new GM will work with a complex group of stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and relationships with farmer members, processors, various levels of government and national body, Turkey Farmers of Canada. He or she will provide leadership in the development of strategic plans and objectives, while constantly scanning the ever-evolving landscape for issues that may impact the industry.

As an ideal candidate, you are a dynamic leader and communicator with a demonstrated ability to manage divergent opinions within multiple stakeholder groups.  Politically astute, you have exceptional relationship management skills, including effective communication, negotiation, and consensus-building skills, operating collegially and collaboratively at all levels.  You couple senior leadership experience, ideally with some exposure to agriculture-related issues, with an appreciation for the complexities of an association operating within a supply-managed industry. Most importantly, you bring a passion for representing Ontario’s farmers, and the role they play in the economy and the production of high quality food for all Canadians.

Applications are encouraged immediately and should be submitted online on the Odgers Berndtson website. We thank all those who express an interest, however only those chosen for further development will be contacted.
