The Ministry of Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation was created in November 2020 to support the growth of BC’s tech sector, champion innovation across the economy, nurture small businesses, and support economic development throughout the province. The ministry also promotes BC internationally as a preferred place to invest and do business.

The Small Business and Economic Development Division is comprised of the following branches:  Small Business, Economic and Regulatory Analysis, Regional and Inclusive Economic Recovery, and the Small Business Grant Program.

The Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) for Small Business and Economic Development leads the Division and delivers on the ministry's vision anchored in the concept of innovative, inclusive and sustainable value creation. This includes implementing and overseeing programs, policies and supports that drive growth in BC’s small business sector and economic recovery. Cross-government leadership and collaboration on streamlining regulatory climate that supports the needs of businesses and communities is an important part of this executive role. The ADM provides advice on high-profile, strategic issues to deputy ministers, ministers, and senior government officials, and works collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

The incumbent is an experienced dynamic, creative and self-directed senior leader who thrives in an environment with demanding work challenges and works effectively in the public sector. Success in this role involves building positive relationships at senior levels within organizations, using sound negotiating skills to the benefit of all partners, deploying considerable experience managing and motivating staff, building strong and positive work relationships at all levels, and demonstrating strong influence management abilities. In addition to the experience required, the ideal candidate will have a post-secondary education in public policy, economics, business, or a related field.
