The Ministry of Finance plays a central role in managing government’s fiscal and financial policies. The Ministry is responsible for achieving government’s goal of balancing the needs and priorities of British Columbians within a fiscal plan that helps keep the Province financially sound over the long run.  The work of the Ministry is varied and touches all sectors of the economy, other ministries and crowns, agencies and boards.

Treasury Board Staff (TBS) is a division within the Ministry of Finance.  It is comprised of 4 branches; Assistant Deputy Minister’s Office; Economic Forecasting and Analysis; Fiscal Planning and Estimates; and Performance Budgeting Office. The primary role of TBS is to provide advice and support to the Minister of Finance, Treasury Board and Cabinet. TBS is also responsible for forecasts and analysis of the provincial economy, revenue, spending, debt and capital. In addition, TBS is responsible for the development of the provincial budget and government’s financial and fiscal plans and forecasts.

The Assistant Deputy Minister/Deputy Secretary to Treasury Board leads the division in providing advice that helps government shape its response to complex problems and build strategies. This position plays a vital role in developing the budget and fiscal plan and achieving government’s financial targets. Reporting to and working with the Deputy Minister of Finance/Secretary to Treasury Board, the Assistant Deputy Minister/Deputy Secretary to Treasury Board leads a team that provides strategic, financial, and operational planning, advises senior government executives and prepares the three-year fiscal plan.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader who inspires high performance and problem solves complex issues by anticipating actions and decisions that will be required of government.

Success in this role involves the ability to navigate a public sector policy-setting environment and experience overseeing complex financial functions and program delivery. Building positive relationships with senior stakeholders and translating policy direction into required action are vital in this executive role.  In addition to the experience required, the ideal candidate will have either a post-secondary degree in a related discipline or an accounting designation.
