Medtech Canada is the national association representing Canada's innovative medical technology industry.
Representing approximately 100 medtech companies (ranging from Canadian-owned to multinationals), Medtech Canada works closely with the federal and provincial-territorial governments, health professionals, patients, and other stakeholders to deliver a patient-centred, safe, accessible, innovative, and sustainable, universal healthcare system supported by the use of medical technology.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Medtech President & CEO provides the executive strategic leadership and overall direction of the association. The CEO is the key spokesperson for Medtech in promoting key advocacy initiatives for the industry.
The CEO’s primary responsibilities are to expand the advocacy initiatives and effectiveness at both the national and provincial levels, ensure full engagement and connection with the membership base in the advocacy initiatives, and provide value-added services to members while ensuring the association's financial stability.
The position requires knowledge of the healthcare industry and the legislative and regulatory frameworks that impact the medical technology industry. The successful candidate should be a self-motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills, be well organized and able to handle multiple projects while effectively working in a multifaceted member-centric organization.
- Works with the Board to develop a clear vision, mission, and strategy for Medtech Canada that results in value for members and long-term sustainability of the association.
- Oversees the development of organizational policies and procedures and coordinates secretariat activities for attaining objectives while ensuring appropriate controls.
- Oversees the development of the annual operational plans and budget.
- Works collaboratively with the Treasurer and VP of Finance and Operations to ensure sound financial management of board-approved budget, including reporting, analytics, monitoring, forecasting, audit support, and tax compliance.
- Serves as the Association chief spokesperson communicating effectively with members, stakeholders, media, and staff.
- Assesses risk and develops appropriate risk management plans (i.e., insurance, technology etc.) while ensuring compliance/control needs in a manner consistent with good business practices, including managing Medtech Canada assets, financial resources, legal/competition law compliance and championing the Association’s brand and reputation.
- In collaboration with the board and senior staff, develops a public policy approach that is translated into a detailed communications plan. The public policy relates to issues surrounding the approval, regulations, reimbursement, and deployment of new and established medical devices.
- Develops a strong personal and association network of key contacts in both federal and\provincial governments, other healthcare (provider and patient) associations and with a wide range of industry organizations; increase public and government awareness of the importance of the Medtech industry through strong advocacy initiatives.
- Ensures that Medtech has appropriate and cost-effective information and communication technology to enable staff to deliver the association's goals.
- Provides overall leadership and management of the Medtech Canada team
- Evaluates performance of the secretariat for compliance with established policies and objectives. Ensures staff development and planning for all organizational positions.
- Ensures that all activities and functions are within the bounds of Medtech Canada’s by-laws and federal/provincial laws, particularly competition law.
- Participates (or assigns/delegates) in the sector and functional committees ensuring full communication within and across all committees.
- Active participation in planning and overseeing the recruitment of new members and delivering member valued services, e.g., conferences/seminars. Personally, builds a strong network with senior executives in member companies and ensures a “service/contact” plan for all Medtech members.
- Ensure timely and accurate communications to internal and external stakeholders within the terms of reference from the Board.
Summary of Qualifications
- Recognized as a senior leader with progressive experience in the medtech industry, government, or healthcare industry, with an MBA or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills, including stakeholder engagement and the ability to advocate effectively with multiple layers of government and decision-makers
- Drive membership growth and engage/retain current Medtech members
- Strategic thinker who can see the big picture and stay focused on execution, leverage resources, set priorities and negotiate solutions to complex problems
- Strong communication and presentation skills and ability to speak to audiences at all stakeholder and membership levels
- Demonstrated experience developing an organizational culture that engages staff, members, and other stakeholders
- Exceptional people leadership and advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% in total (including international travel).
