Senior Director, Government Relations

Location: Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal Corridor

The Automotive Industries Association (AIA) of Canada is the only national industry association in Canada that brings together the entire automotive aftermarket supply and service chain. AIA’s membership extends to more than 4,000 member locations across Canada employing professionals dedicated to providing quality parts and products as well as vehicle service and repairs to the country’s fleet of almost 26 million vehicles. As the voice and resource for the automotive aftermarket industry in Canada, AIA’s mission is to promote, educate, and represent members in all areas that impact the growth and prosperity of the industry.

The Association is now seeking a Senior Director, Government Relations. Reporting to the President, the Senior Director, Government Relations will lead the Association’s advocacy efforts with the Federal and Provincial governments. In consultation with the President and Board of Directors, the Senior Director will develop and implement a high impact government relations Strategic Plan and the budget to maximize government funding opportunities, including short and long term goals and performance metrics. With a track record for transparency and collaboration, you will leverage your government relations expertise, association management experience, and knowledge of the Canadian economy to enhance AIA’s government relations portfolio and advance the Association’s mission.

As an ideal candidate, you are an engaging, self-motivated and effective spokesperson. You have working knowledge of government relations legislation and priorities with the proven ability to analyse and interpret legislation. Diplomatic, tactful, and a skilled negotiator, you understand the culture, motivations and expectations of government officials and work with decision makers for mutually beneficial outcomes. Strategic and analytical, you have excellent written and oral communications skills to establish priorities and gain support from members and stakeholders. Bilingualism is considered an asset and the flexibility to travel, when restrictions are lifted, in Canada and the US will be required.
