Deputy Registrar

Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians & Technologists

Deputy Registrar

The Deputy Registrar is responsible for the operational management and quality control of the Institute of Engineering Technology of Ontario (IETO). There are over 25,000 members in Ontario who have achieved certification and approximately 2,000 applications are processed each year.

IETO is housed within the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT), in the Etobicoke area of the GTA.

The Deputy Registrar reports to the Registrar. The Deputy Registrar will also have the Manager of Admissions and Certifications reporting to them and will be directly involved in admissions, certification, registration, examinations, project management, and customer/member service.  The position works closely and cooperatively with other departments in OACETT providing support to IETO (eg. Information technology, marketing and communications).

The responsibilities of the role do require a high level of detail work in a culture that expects excellent customer service.  Applicants must be technologically savvy, particularly in terms of the use of technology to support regulatory and/or certification activities.  OACETT/IETO has just launched a new Member Portal and database, so the successful candidate’s ability to contribute to updating practices and processes in the new environment will be critical.  Excellent writing and other communication skills are essential as the Deputy Registrar produces reports for internal and public audiences and is called upon to make presentations. Communications with members, requiring empathy, diplomacy, and objectivity are part of the job.

Skills that round out the candidate profile include the ability to be precise, listen actively, and deliver on assigned goals and duties in a timely manner. The Deputy Registrar will also have some financial management responsibilities, such as contributing to budget development.

There is significant interaction with volunteers from the engineering technician and technology/applied science profession. As an organization that relies on member volunteer work, there is some evening and occasional weekend work. The Deputy Registrar will also collaborate with Technology Accreditation Canada and Ontario Colleges in the accreditation of relevant programs.

Deputy Registrar candidates will be familiar with processes related to professional admissions, certification, and registration, ideally through experience working in a regulatory organization where transparency and fairness are hallmarks. Applicants will have a relevant university degree (or equivalent), and several years’ experience with or in regulatory organizations and/or association management.

This is a one year contract with the potential to extend; annual salary range is $90,000 - $100,000.

Qualified individuals are invited to express interest by submitting their resume and cover letter by July 22nd to
