Founded in 1920, the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC, the Institute) has over 60,000 members and is the largest union in Canada representing scientists and professionals employed at the federal, provincial, and territorial levels of government. The Institute (PIPSC) was founded to protect the interests of professional public employees and is the bargaining agent for more than 41 knowledge-based groups and negotiates with 27 different employers in seven jurisdictions. It serves its members with offices and staff across Canada, with a purpose of building community to act collectively to improve its members’ lives and provide the highest quality representation to members. Director, National Labour Relations

The Director is responsible for the development and delivery of the Institute’s negotiations and compensation strategies and will significantly contribute to the Institute’s organizational and strategic planning. While demonstrating the PIPSC values of respect, integrity, co-operation and accountability, the Director serves as a critical subject matter expert in collective bargaining and negotiating. As a member of the Leadership Team, you will provide advice, formulating and overseeing the planning, development, and implementation of integrated labour relations strategies to advance the goals of PIPSC, while preserving and improving the working conditions for our professional members. Building and leveraging key relationships at all levels of key decision-makers, through common visions and healthy discussions is of paramount importance.

You are a highly strategic and progressive team leader and relationship builder, possessing emotional intelligence, diplomacy, sound judgement and superior communication skills. You have a thorough understanding of labour relations and collective bargaining in the labour environment, as well as experience in building and leading a highly committed multi-disciplinary team. The ability to be influential, conciliatory and reach necessary compromise when appropriate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders is key, in addition to demonstrated political acuity.  You are a fair-minded, confident, and critical thinker, with a university degree in business, human resources, industrial relations, or a related field of study, and 8-10 years of progressively responsible work experience in labour relations and team leadership.
