Vice-President, Policy and Sector Collaboration Council of Ontario Universities

Vice-President, Policy and Sector Collaboration

Council of Ontario Universities

The Council of Ontario Universities is the forum for Ontario’s universities to collaborate and advocate in support of their shared mission to the benefit and prosperity of students, communities, and the province of Ontario. A membership organization consisting of Ontario’s 20 publicly assisted universities and one associate member, the Royal Military College of Canada, COU works with members to find consensus on a wide range of university issues and advances them with government and other stakeholders. The role of COU members has never been more important to our economy and to Ontarians, and it is within this dynamic context that COU is seeking to recruit a Vice-President of Policy and Sector Collaboration.

The Vice-President leads the development and analysis of policy positions in support of both the government advocacy and collaborative, sector-wide efforts of COU members. The Vice-President will position the policy team to be able to respond to and anticipate the needs of universities across Ontario, and will provide forward thinking, well-informed, and strategic policy advice that members can turn to when making critical decisions. The Vice-President will engage with the key leaders of member institutions to ascertain common goals while balancing their diverse needs and perspectives.

As the ideal candidate, you are a collaborative leader who can articulate a clear and focused direction for the department that has the support of senior management, members, and stakeholders, and will position COU as an informed, proactive thought leader. You are a relationship builder who will reach out to, serve, and engage with COU’s diverse stakeholder base, with the goal of empowering them with best-in-class research and policy advice. You are a skilled and experienced manager who can lead, guide, and support a team to achieve ambitious goals. You excel at translating complex information to a range of audiences and enjoy working with an ecosystem of stakeholders. Your colleagues recognise you as a change agent who will help ensure COU continues to support an evolving postsecondary sector during an incredibly dynamic time for our province and country.

COU is committed to fostering a collegial culture grounded in equity, diversity, and inclusion. The organization and its members encourage applications from BIPOC candidates, persons with a disability, women, persons of all sexual orientations and gender identities, and all candidates who would contribute to the diversity of the community.
