The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation (Ministry) is responsible for British Columbia’s electricity, alternative energy, oil, natural gas and related infrastructure, and the province’s mining and mineral exploration sectors. To support Government’s climate objectives, the Ministry focuses on advancing energy efficiency and clean or renewable energy sources and technologies. The Ministry carries out this work in accordance with the CleanBC plan, and commitments to Indigenous reconciliation.

The Assistant Deputy Minister leads the Division of specialized technical staff focused on five business areas under the Ministry’s mandate: 1) health and safety, 2) mining regulatory framework audits, 3) compliance management and enforcement, 4) Code review and 5) orphaned and abandoned mines. This role provides expertise on health, safety and enforcement matters and represents Ministry interests on provincial compliance and enforcement and health and safety initiatives.

The successful candidate will have significant senior progressive executive experience in leading and managing teams in a highly intense working environment, as well as experience in representing government and consulting with stakeholders, including First Nations. This executive role requires experience in compliance, enforcement, health and safety initiatives or related strategic and policy initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a related university degree and preference may be given to a Master’s Degree.
