President & CEO

President & CEO

Location: Ottawa, Canada

The propane industry is a critical part of the Canadian economy, serving the needs of Canadian customers with one of the cleanest and most versatile fuels in existence. The Canadian Propane Association (CPA) is the national association for Canada’s propane industry, dedicated to promoting propane as an essential energy solution. Each year, the Canadian propane industry supports 21,000 direct jobs, generating more than $4.4 billion for the Canadian economy.

Since the early 1900s, the cost effectiveness of propane and its integrated infrastructure makes it the energy choice of hundreds of thousands of Canadians. CPA is looking for a President & CEO to drive their mission of championing the propane industry in Canada, and to facilitate best practices, safety, and a favourable business environment through advocacy, training, and emergency response.

Reporting to the Board and working closely with the Executive Committee, the CEO will lead the development of CPA’s public policy agenda, establish and implement advocacy strategies, operational plans, and lead the lobbying efforts to achieve the desired outcomes for the Canadian propane industry. As the public spokesperson for CPA, the CEO will build CPA’s relationships and alliances with other propane industry organizations and represent the Canadian propane industry in international fora. The CEO will develop collaborative working relationships with a range of partners and stakeholders that are in pursuit of common public policy goals. Day to day, the CEO will also manage all business affairs of the Association, and lead, mentor, and motivate a dedicated CPA team in Ottawa.

As the ideal CEO, you are a skilled manager with extensive experience interacting with elected officials and government decision-makers, primarily at the federal level. Strategic and pragmatic, you have a bias to action and a focus on short, medium, and long-term wins. You are considered an exceptional communicator, media savvy, a business-minded leader, and a credible and authoritative voice and face for an organization that is seeking to influence policy. Your knowledge of government decision-making and the legislative and regulatory processes will serve you well as CPA’s chief advocate and representative. Your ability to communicate in both official languages would be an asset.
