Vice-Chair on Actsafe's Board of Directors

Actsafe Safety Association is recruiting for the volunteer position of Vice-Chair on its Board of Directors.

This is one of three independent volunteer roles on the Board, with the balance being composed of employer and worker representatives involved in the production in BC of motion pictures, television, performing arts and live events. The incoming Vice-Chair will succeed to the position of Chair after two years. Actsafe is a not-for-profit health and safety association supporting British Columbia’s arts and entertainment industries. Its mission is to make British Columbia the safest place in the world for the production of motion pictures, television, live events and performing arts by providing trusted and reliable occupational health and safety education, training and resources to the employers, supervisors and workers we serve – in order to prevent and eliminate occupational disease, injuries, and illness.

Position: Vice-Chair
Responsible to: Board of Directors (Chair)
Purpose: The vice-chair assists and advises the chair in providing independent, effective leadership to the board in the governance of Actsafe.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Report to, advise, and provide wise counsel to the chair
  • To act as the chair of the board, either in the absence of the chair or as requested by the chair, and to carry out additional leadership duties relating to the functioning, responsibilities and effectiveness of the board
  • Collaborate with the chair to develop and implement policies, processes, practices and terms of reference that support the deliberations of the board in order that the board may diligently fulfill its duties and conduct its work and affairs effectively and efficiently
  • Orients and acts as a mentor to the independent board positions
  • Performs other responsibilities as delegated by the chair or the board
  • Serves as member of one or more standing committees of the board as they may be constituted from time to time (other than the Motion Picture and Performing Arts Standing Committees which the vice-chair may attend as a guest)
