Established in 1935, The Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) was formed as a unified voice to speak on behalf of Canadian farmers. Their work continues today as a farmer-funded, national umbrella organization comprising of provincial general farm organizations and national and interprovincial commodity groups. Their 200,000 members are Canadian farm families who represent producers of all commodities, and operate farms of all sizes, from coast to coast. The CFA aims to achieve a thriving and sustainable agriculture sector in Canada, which delivers real social and economic benefits across the country. They develop polices and programs through grassroots, democratic process that engages farmers in comprehensive discussions, considering policy issues from various points of view. Earning and maintaining public trust in the agriculture sector, through their words and actions, is vital to the CFA and its members.

Working closely with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of the day-to-day business of the organization and provide leadership to a small but mighty staff complement. The ED will be supporting the Board of Directors (27 Members) and a skilled and motivated team of approximately 8 staff. The ED will act as the ambassador and strategic leader of the organization in order to support and lead the execution of the CFA’s advocacy work. Located in Ottawa the Executive Director will have overall accountability of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture’s operations, financial performance, human resources, projects, and communications. Achieving organizational objectives that must continuously adapt and evolve in response to environmental, legislative, technological, and economic factors, demands a talented ED.

The ideal candidate is an adaptable and strategic leader, that will have demonstrated passion for agriculture, and can navigate the complexities of a changing and evolving industry. You have a demonstrated ability to provide leadership in policy, planning, program development, and advocacy work for the CFA. You bring excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills for building an office team, relationships with the executive, board and committees, and with members, key members and staff of the federal government and the public. An excellent communicator in both official languages of Canada is considered a strong asset.
