About SAVT

The SAVT was founded to serve, support, and register Veterinary Technologists in the province. The Association places emphasis on the professional and educational advancement of Veterinary Technologists, so that they may better serve the Veterinary Medical Profession. The SAVT is a non-profit organization.

SAVT’s mission is to promote and advance Registered Veterinary Technologists (RVTs).

SAVT’s vision is professionalism and excellence in animal care.

SAVT proudly serves over 600 members.

Position Overview

The Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the SAVT. The Executive Director oversees all operations, functions and activities of the Association. They are responsible for realizing the long-term and short-term strategic direction of the association through the implementation of the SAVT’s vision, mission, strategic plan and policies.

The Executive Director leads and motivates staff, elected officials, committee members and volunteers. They have great communication skills and take a holistic approach to managing the organization’s operations.

The Executive Director reports to the SAVT Board of Directors.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Participate with the Board of Directors in developing a vision and strategic plan
  • Lead the organization towards the realization of its mission
  • Oversee the Association’s day-to-day planning and operations including finances and employees in the areas of finance, advocacy, governance, events, educational offerings, human resources, reporting, records retention and programming
  • Build an effective and efficient team of leaders (staff, elected officials and volunteers)
  • Communicate with members and stakeholders (including social media)
  • Manage, advise and support the SAVT Board of Directors and committees
  • Promote Registered Veterinary Technologists (RVTs) and the SAVT
  • Advocate for RVTs
  • Drive forward innovation and change in the association and veterinary medicine

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven prior Association management or leadership experience (3+ years)
  • A collaborative and transparent leadership style and excellent people management skills
  • Experience with non-profit governance (including Robert's Rules) and working with a board of directors to guide strategy development, set priorities and effectively implement action plans
  • Solid management skills, including team management, planning, delegating, program development and management, and financial management
  • Experience leading change, ideally in a regulated, public sector and/or changing environment
  • An analytical mind capable of “out-of-the-box” thinking to solve problems
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and public speaking skills
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently with great success

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of animal health, veterinary medicine or the human-animal bond
  • Background in advocacy work
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, Google Drive, WordPress, and social media

Education and Experience

  • Association management education or certification
  • Bachelor’s degree or a post-secondary certificate/diploma along with 5+ years of experience

Work Environment

This position is a permanent, full-time, salaried position. Flexibility is required as evenings and weekend work and travel will be required (a full valid driver’s license required). This position has a hybrid work model with there being an office in Saskatoon available. The Executive Director is required to work from within Saskatchewan.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary is dependent upon experience. SAVT offers a competitive benefits package.
