Position Overview

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO)’s primary responsibility is to provide leadership to the Association. While the Board is responsible for supervising the management of the business, the CEO is responsible for the executive leadership and for facilitating the highly effective performance of CCA. The CEO is an executive of CCA and as such is responsible for the operational management of every aspect of CCA’s business as well as working with the Board to help set the overall strategy for CCA.

This role is located in downtown Toronto, and in-person attendance at the office is a requirement. Occasional travel is also required.

Key Responsibilities

The CEO shall have active general management of the business of CCA (Association). Duties shall include, but are not limited to:

  1. Strategic leadership, which includes developing with the Board, the mission, vision, values, and objectives of the organization;
  2. Leading and managing the Association within parameters established by the Board and relevant Committees;
  3. Reviewing and reporting regularly to the Board concerning the Association’s progress toward its strategic plan;
  4. Implementing the capital and operating plans that support the strategic plan;
  5. Preparing and, upon Board approval, implementing annual budgets in support of the strategic plan;
  6. Ensuring that appropriate resources are in place to support the strategic and operational plans;
  7. Preparing and implementing a strategic human resources plan which includes staff training, development, and rejuvenation plan;
  8. Reviewing and reporting regularly to the Board on the overall progress and results against operating and financial objectives and initiating courses of action for improvement;
  9. Identifying the principal risks of the Association’s business and implementing  appropriate systems to manage these risks.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • experience as a CEO of a national organization
  • executive experience in a not-for-profit association, in particular the healthcare industry
  • obtained a graduate degree and/or Master’s degree (MBA preferred)
  • a background as a healthcare professional (preferred)
  • extensive knowledge in board relations and governance
  • demonstrated solid strategic planning and operational effectiveness
  • strong communication skills with ability to proactively solve problems and anticipate future trends
  • excellent relationship management with the capability to engage and build meaningful partnerships
