Who We Are:

The Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating (CIPH) is a not-for-profit trade association that is Canada’s leading voice promoting the Plumbing, Heating, Hydronics, PVF, and Waterworks Industries. With more than 280 companies as members, CIPH represents a vibrant industry that sees sales in excess of $9 billion annually, that employs more than 20,000 from coast to coast and that provides essential services to all Canadians.

For the last 90 years, CIPH has been connecting the industry and, today, CIPH provides a wide range of events, trade shows, seminars, workshops, webinars and publications on plumbing and hydronic heating for its members. CIPH informs and connects its members with each other and with relevant stakeholders (including allied organizations and associations at national and international levels) and is able to represent its members in all aspects of the industry. CIPH ensures a unified voice in education, new technologies and advocacy for areas such as industry codes, regulatory standards, clean and waste water initiatives and climate change.

The Opportunity:

With the upcoming retirement of CIPH’s current leader, the Board of Directors wishes to recruit an innovative and forward-thinking CEO with a record of accomplishment in leadership, advocacy and strategically advancing an organization towards its mission. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) acts as a liaison among members, the Board of Directors and government, and is accountable for the management of CIPH’s programs and services, events, membership growth and retention, advocacy, government and media relations, partnerships, risk management and financial activities. The CEO develops and implements strategic plans, annual business plans and budgets in collaboration with the Board of Directors to ensure that CIPH continues to evolve and innovate. The CEO provides leadership to the Association and a staff team of eight skilled professionals (via three direct reports) to ensure that CIPH achieves its mission and strategic objectives. Rooted in a commitment to inclusion and teamwork, the CEO works in partnership with a variety of key stakeholders to see through the best interests of members and ensure the sustainability and success of the Association.

About You:

As the ideal candidate, you are a visionary and people-focused leader with outstanding relationship building, listening and communications skills. With excellent organizational management skills, political acumen and strong advocacy skills, you are a fast learner who is attuned to how a trade association can optimally support its members, unifying and serving as a collective voice for the industry. With an excellent ability to engage and bring others together, you have the capacity to develop strong, productive relationships with CIPH’s members, the Board, staff, government and allied organizations. You have 5+ years of progressive executive leadership experience, including navigating and operating effectively within a regulatory environment and industry that is highly technical. To the role, you bring an ability to identify new opportunities that align with CIPH’s vision and a talent for providing clear direction and coaching / mentorship to help the team grow and execute on the vision. Bilingualism (French and English), a CAE designation, experience working with a Board of Directors, and a track-record of influencing government decision making are definite assets.

CIPH’s office is located in Etobicoke, Ontario and currently operates as a hybrid work environment. Historically, the CEO role has included up to 20% travel time nationally, including visits to the regions, meeting with allied associations, attending trade shows, etc.
