Manager of Membership and Operations

Hybrid, based in Ottawa, ON

Come join our team as our next Manager of Membership and Operations. This full-time permanent position (37.5 hours/week), reporting to the President & CEO, is an exciting, fast-pace and dynamic role in not-for-profit association management where you can make a big impact on a small team. The role is based in downtown Ottawa and requires work onsite for a minimum of two (2) full days a week and up to four (4) days depending on work priorities.

What you will do

You will facilitate the implementation of key services and initiatives for the association by relying on your organizational skills, attention to detail, tech savviness and experience in not-for-profit member-based association operations to know what needs to be done and who should do it. You will help achieve organizational objectives successfully and on time.

  • Membership: Oversee the administration of the membership function, including supporting member recruitment and retention strategies, the continuing education process and managing one staff.
  • Operations: Manage office operations and corporate services, including supporting financial operations and other administrative matters.
  • Events: Play a key role in the organization of CALU’s Annual Conference and AGM and logistics for other occasional events/conferences during the year.
  • Governance: Support the administration of the Board of Directors, Committees and other governance matters.

What you bring

The ideal candidate has:

  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5-8 years of relevant work experience in a member-based association or a not-for-profit organization.
  • Excellent organizing, prioritizing, monitoring and documenting skills.
  • Excellent software and technology skills, including Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, Member 365 database, WordPress, web-based tools and social media.
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English are required. French is an asset but not required.
  • Good interpersonal skills, and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, consultants, suppliers, and Board and committee members.
  • Demonstrated pro-active mindset to take the initiative in developing and prioritizing issues and methods to accomplish tasks or assignments.
  • Adept at working under pressure, managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines.
