SkilledTradesBC (formerly Industry Training Authority) leads and coordinates British Columbia’s skilled trades system. The organization works with employers, employees, industry, labour, training providers, and government to ensure British Columbia benefits from a strong and diverse skilled labour force to meet economic demand. It does this through supporting apprentices and employers, designing and funding programs, and working to increase the value of skilled trades careers. SkilledTradesBC was once again named one of BC’s Top 100 Employers and is also once again designated as a Great Place To Work for 2023.

With an expanded mandate to enable trades training in British Columbia and ensure the province, its citizens and economy are achieving best in class outcomes, SkilledTradesBC is seeking an inspired Chief Operating Officer (COO) to help take the organization to its next elevated state. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the COO will provide executive leadership of and hold accountability for, all operational functions that directly serve the organization’s clients: current and prospective apprentices, sponsors, and employers. The COO leads a team responsible for the delivery of a responsive, customer focused and inclusive trades training system for the province of BC.

 

The ideal candidate is a tenured executive who is well known for their strategic skills in leading diverse teams and has proven abilities in customer focused operational environments. The COO has a leadership style that fosters teamwork and attains outstanding results through an inclusive and adaptive approach.  The incumbent will have a proven track record in business transformation and bring a people-centric and public service lens to the business of SkilledTradesBC. Possessing an entrepreneurial spirit, the COO will be a champion of data-based decision making and will play a pivotal role in strategic planning. The ideal candidate will bring a truly consultative and consensus driven approach to partner relationships with industry, government, Indigenous groups, post-secondary institutions and other provincial and community entities. The incumbent will lead through example, be a strong executive team member and ensure the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion are woven into all aspects of SkilledTradesBC’s work.
