CIQS is the premier professional association and the self-regulatory body that sets the highest standard for construction and infrastructure economics in Canada. Designated Professional Quantity Surveyors (PQS) and Construction Estimator Certified (CEC) professionals counsel building owners, developers, designers and contractors at every stage of the design, procurement and construction process to help ensure a return on investment is delivered.

 

CIQS’s mission is to promote and advance the profession, set industry standards, and advocate for continuous learning and development within the field of estimating and quantity surveying.

CIQS represents over 2,000 members from across Canada and abroad.

 

We are currently seeking to fill a Director, Learning position for our Head Office in Markham, Ontario (Please note that the office will be moving between July-October 2024 to the Richmond Hill, ON area). This position will be full-time, in office is preferred but remote or hybrid workplace is open for consideration.

 

Position Overview:

The Director, Learning is a pivotal role within CIQS, responsible for steering the institute's educational initiatives and certification program, curating relevant content, and ensuring the provision of top-tier learning resources and opportunities for our Members/aspiring members.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a review and analysis of the CIQS Test of Professional Experience (TPE) certification program
  • Initial and ongoing review of CIQS’ syllabi, Architectural, Mechanical, and Electrical
  • Manage the development of a new heavy civil syllabus
  • Develop a learning plan for continuing professional development
  • Development of online courses
  • Plan, develop, implement, evaluate and revise educational offerings in response to changes in competencies, emerging trends, best practices and learning needs assessment with consultation of subject matter experts
  • Writing and Updating of Education Policy Guidelines
  • Review, revise or develop policies related to education (ie. Accreditation Policy)
  • Oversee and manage the CIQS Education Committee and other related committees
  • Management of Reciprocity Agreements
  • Liaise with CIQS accredited colleges and universities to ensure their levels of education reflect the competencies of the certification
  • Identify college and university programs eligible for accreditation
  • Investigate the process and potential for a university degree program in Quantity Surveying in Canada
  • Management of 1-3 staff

Qualifications

 

  • Post-secondary or Master’s degree in Adult Education, Instructional Design or related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum three years’ experience in designing, developing, and evaluating curriculum.
  • Knowledge of learning theory, methodology, and frameworks
  • Experience with not-for-profit professional association and/or a regulatory body preferred.
  • Experience with accreditation processes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Interact and collaborate effectively with members, volunteers, and staff.
  • Experience with association databases and learning platforms preferred (ie. iMIS and TopClass)
  • Strong time and project management skills
  • Fluency in English (Bilingual in English and French is preferred)
