Canadian Defence Lawyers is the only national organization representing the interests of civil defence lawyers. We are seeking an experienced Association Professional to join our small team to fill a one year Mat-Leave commencing January 6, 2025.
You will have the opportunity to shape CDL’s rapidly evolving membership and marketing strategies and programs, as well as to contribute to our 2025-2028 Strategic Plan. As part of a small staff team, you will have significant autonomy and independence; while having continuous access to senior staff leaders.

Responsibilities:
- Support Member Experience and provide assistance to Members and Sponsors in navigating online and in-person offerings.
- Primary responsibility for updates to the AMS and configuring registration pages for Education and Events (at the direction of the Director); assists with processing of memberships and renewals, sponsorship sales, and event registrations.
- Provides support and liaises with Contract Bookkeepers to ensure membership, sponsorship and registration sales transactions are properly accounted for.
- Assists the Director of Education and Events in preparing for in-person events including (preparing badges and ribbons, arranging for printing of materials, and liaison with sponsors).
- Assists the Director of Education and Events and the Executive Director in ensuring Sponsors are supported and provided with agreed upon exposure and recognition.
- Assists the Executive Director in planning and designing, marketing and communications products to support membership growth, and event registrations; including some simple graphic design, copy generation, email marketing and posting to Canadian Defence Lawyers Social Media (LinkedIn as primary).
- Staff Liaison to the Young Lawyers and D&I Committees; includes scheduling, assisting the chair with the setting of agendas, and tracking meeting notes and action items arising.
- Assists with general scheduling of some internal events and meetings, and in confirming representatives for meetings with Governments, affiliated Associations and the Courts.
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years in a Membership and/or Marketing role at an Association or AMC.
- A University or College Degree in Business, Administration or Marketing would considered a strong assest. A CAE or desire to obtain the CAE, with funding available to pursue 1 or 2 CAE courses during your employment.
- Excellent written and spoken English. Additional languages are an asset, but not required.
- Familiarity with AMS (Association Management Software) is required; experience using Naylor Association Solutions would be an asset, but is not required.
- Familiarity with Quickbooks, Contant Contact or Similar Email Marketing Software, Adobe or Canva Design Software, and the Microsoft Suite of Products would be an asset, but is not required.
Annual Salary: $65,000-$80,000
