The Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors (OAND) is a growing professional association representing Ontario’s licensed naturopathic doctors and student members, advocating for naturopathic medicine as a key pillar of proactive primary healthcare. OAND seeks a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to provide leadership, oversee strategic plan implementation, and enhance the

organization’s profile and impact in Ontario. Reporting to the Board, the CEO will manage financial performance, human resources, and government relations while serving as an ambassador for the profession. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of healthcare systems, a proven track record in leadership, strategy, stakeholder engagement, and association management, as well as a commitment to advancing the role of naturopathic medicine within Ontario’s healthcare landscape.

 

The Board is now seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who will provide leadership and direction and oversee the implementation of a new strategic plan.  Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will have overall accountability for the organization’s financial performance and stability, human resources and stakeholder/government relations while serving as an effective ambassador on behalf of the profession.  With a small, dedicated team, the CEO will oversee the implementation of the mission, vision and strategic plan while working to increase the reach and profile of the OAND in Ontario.

 

Who You Are

You are an innovative and dynamic leader with a passion for naturopathic medicine and/or advancing proactive healthcare. With a strong understanding of the healthcare system and experience driving the success of member-focused organizations, you excel at building collaborative relationships with government and stakeholders to achieve a shared vision. You bring a proven track record of senior leadership, strategic planning, and working effectively with Boards and Committees. Your exceptional interpersonal, communication, financial, and human resource management skills enable you to navigate complex challenges with creativity and resourcefulness. Ideally experienced in non-profits or associations, you are eager to bring your leadership and excitement for naturopathic medicine to help shape its future in Ontario.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide the strategic direction and operations of OAND 
  • Strengthen a culture of accountability; ensure a high level of team performance; build a culture of openness, collaboration and belonging
  • Attract and retain diverse, highly qualified staff; provide opportunities for professional growth and development; ensure role clarity; ensure staff have opportunity to thrive
  • Lead anti-oppression initiatives and equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) practices
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the strategic plan
  • Protect the programmatic integrity of the organization
  • Ensure financial stability through strategic growth, precise budgeting, regular reporting
  • Support the board in executing its fiduciary duty; attend board meetings; deliver appropriate reports; identify, manage and mitigate risks escalating matters to the board as appropriate 
  • Serve as a non-voting member of each committee of the board
  • Effectively engage with members to understand their needs and concerns
  • Participate in advocacy efforts, proactively seeking to influence government 
  • Collaborate with provincial and national stakeholders  to advance OAND’s mission and increase value to members
  • Identify and pursue innovative partnership opportunities 

 

Education / Experience / Skills

The search committee recognizes that no one candidate is likely to meet the following qualifications in equal measure; they are preferred and will be used in the assessment of candidates.

  • Undergraduate degree; CAE designation preferred
  • Senior leadership experience; in nonprofit or membership association management preferred
  • Experience reporting to a volunteer board of directors; demonstrated understanding of policy governance boards 
  • An anti-oppressive and inclusive approach to leadership;  experience championing EDI and anti-oppression work in diverse environments
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and cultivate positive, collaborative relationships
  • Excellent and effective communication skills; a persuasive, passionate and tactful communicator; ability to build consensus among diverse groups of people; ability to communicate effectively to a broad range of audiences
  • Successful track record in building stakeholder partnerships
  • Insight and vision in identifying and anticipating trends in health care and how they affect the role of the OAND. Perceptive when identifying potential risks to and opportunities for the organization.
  • Ability to plan, lead and execute organization-wide activities
  • Strong financial and business acumen 
  • Interest and awareness of naturopathic medicine and profession

 

The salary range for this position is $130,000-$150,000 annually.
