Founded in 1986, the Canadian Hatching Egg Producers (CHEP) represents 230 farmers from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec. CHEP is a national organization funded through farmer levies based on the broiler hatching eggs produced.  The broiler hatching egg industry is a highly specialized industry that is at the foundation of Canada's chicken industry.

Reporting to the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will be responsible for the overall management of CHEP's office and its activities, within budget and in accordance with the policies approved by the Board.




  • Reporting to the Board and the Executive Committee, the Executive Director has direct responsibility for the strategic leadership and day-to-day operations of CHEP
  • Responsible for accomplishing the goals and objectives of CHEP Strategic Plan and Vision
  • Responsible and effective leader of CHEP’s staff including mentorship, development and performance management
  • Day-to-day spokesperson for CHEP on operational matters
  • Provides the necessary resources to members to ensure that the best possible decisions are made


Operational Excellence

  • Lead and influence the employees of CHEP to ensure the mission and vision of CHEP is clearly understood and delivered upon
  • Lead and manage the development of all financial and operational plans; oversee implementation of budgets, and monitor progress/changes related to budgets
  • Develop and maintain meaningful and effective relationships with CHEP members, along with allied organizations, including federal and provincial regulators, government agencies, industry associations, the media, service organizations and relevant international organizations to the benefit of CHEP members
  • Identify major Policy issues and develop Policy options for evaluation by the Executive Committee
  • Implement and take action on all Policy issues within approved limits
  • Contributes to the development of priorities, directions, and decisions for submission to the Executive Committee and, subsequently, the members
  • Works with the Executive Committee to develop and articulate CHEP’s positions on the broad issues that it must address in relation to government, industry and other parties
  • Works closely with CHEP committees to ensure appropriate resources are available for their work from internal staff, data and research, or other sources
  • On a day-to-day basis, source product to meet supply and demand requirements across the country to reduce the volume of supplementary imports
  • With the express approval of the Chairman, make statements of public record on behalf of CHEP
  • Attend and participate in all Board of Directors, Executive Committee and general Committee meetings
  • Train new Directors, Alternates, Provincial Secretary Managers and office staff in the roles and responsibilities of CHEP and its management team as well as policies and procedures of the National Office operations




  • Proven leadership ability and management track record with 10 or more years of relevant professional experience in a senior leadership / senior administrative / senior management role
  • Significant experience in successfully managing an organization with multiple stakeholders and professionals
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in English and French, orally and in writing, including promoting the organization and its programs in the media and to the public
  • A University degree in a related field such as business administration, political science, public administration, agriculture or economics, and/or related experience
  • Working knowledge of Robert’s Rules of Order, legal processes and procedures, primary agriculture and the interface with the food industry, trade association activities and protocols
  • Financial acumen including experience with budget management and financial reporting
