The Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists (CSHP) is the national voluntary organization of pharmacists committed to patient care through the advancement of safe, effective medication use in hospitals and other collaborative healthcare settings. CSHP supports its 3,070 members through advocacy, education, information sharing, promotion of best practices, and facilitation of research and recognition of excellence.

CSHP maintains its solid record of supporting pharmacy professionals in advancing their practice in hospitals and other collaborative healthcare settings. It has contributed to improvements in patient care, including how medications are prescribed, prepared, administered, and handled, and to enhancements in collaborative practice models. The Society’s efforts are founded on the desire of its members to help create a stronger healthcare system and to improve the health of patients and the public. CSHP's influence goes beyond its members, hospitals, and collaborative healthcare settings, giving support and direction to pharmacy practice wherever care is provided.

Due to the planned and imminent retirement of its executive leader, the CSHP Board is now seeking a Chief Executive Officer to lead its team and to be the face of the organization.

Role Description

The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the Society in accordance with the strategic direction established by the Board of Directors. As the chief administrator of both CSHP and the CSHP Research and Education Foundation, the Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the management of CSHP’s office, its human resources, and the financial affairs of the Society and the CSHP Research and Education Foundation.

Skills Required

Your qualifications for this national role will include senior leadership experience, preferably combined with an undergraduate degree in pharmacy or healthcare management, or post-graduate degree in administration, business or other related field. Work experience of five or more years in volunteer sector organizations, hospitals and other healthcare settings, or equivalent, is required.

As the ideal candidate, you will have successfully led people, strategy, innovation, and change in complex environments with numerous issues and stakeholders. You will bring outstanding management expertise with a solid record in finance, human resources, communications, advocacy, quality and process improvement, and program planning and delivery. You will have a demonstrated ability to work effectively and confidently with staff, association boards and members, governments, non-governmental associations, and other partners.

Oral and written fluency in French and English is preferred.

The position is located in Ottawa and requires travel for business in Ottawa or to locations in Canada or abroad. It will require work during evenings and weekends.
