Senior Vice President & Chief Development Officer

Trillium Health Partners Foundation is dedicated to raising the critical funds needed to address the highest priority needs of Trillium Health Partners across three sites: Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga Hospital, and Queensway Health Centre. The Foundation’s mission is to inspire and partner with our community to invest in how health care is delivered in this region. It is a mission deeply rooted in Trillium Health Partners’ strategic plan which is focused on creating a new kind of health care for a healthier community.

Our history is extraordinary, built from the 2013 amalgamation of two exceptional foundations: Trillium Health Centre Foundation and The Credit Valley Hospital Foundation – each of which has a significant legacy of strong community support and leadership. It is because of this support that Trillium Health Partners has become a Canadian leader in patient care.

Raising more than $32 million last year, THPF strategically drives success as one of the highest performing hospital foundations in the country. Our organization is positioned for growth, and has increased our revenue generating capacity each year since our amalgamation. The Foundation consists of 35 professionals and support staff across a variety of departments, including philanthropy, strategy & community engagement including marketing, donor relations, annual giving and events, and corporate services. This interconnected team works in collaboration toward the goals of a comprehensive campaign encompassing the work of our entire organization.

We are now in the planning stages of a large-scale comprehensive campaign that will include local share of a significant hospital expansion at two of our sites (as announced in the 2017 provincial budget); fuel research, innovation & education; and generate funds for all thirteen clinical areas in support of the Hospital’s strategic priorities. Our campaign will comprise our entire organization’s operations serving as a public face of our fundraising priorities and creating a sense of urgency for our community.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As we move towards our campaign, the Foundation recognizes the need to build our strategic fundraising capacity focused on leadership and transformative philanthropy. We have undertaken an organizational review that is resulting in the realignment and growth of our Foundation team.

A key component of this new plan is the addition of a new Senior Vice President & Chief Development Officer. The SVP & CDO will be responsible for the leadership giving and campaign portfolios, as well as prospect research and donor relations. Expertise is needed to secure $10M+ gifts, which will be essential for the future. The SVP & CDO will report to the President & CEO, and work closely with colleagues across the Foundation, enabling the President & CEO to focus on large gifts, innovation, and strategy within the Foundation.

ABOUT TRILLIUM HEALTH PARTNERS

Trillium Health Partners was formed in 2011 through the amalgamation of the Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Centre (Mississauga Hospital and Queensway Health Centre), and serves the 2.4 million people of the Halton and Peel regions, the city of Mississauga, and west Toronto.

Trillium Health Partners envisions a new approach to health – an interconnected system of care that is organized around the patient, both inside the hospital and beyond its walls. An approach that provides excellent care today and continued leadership for improving care tomorrow. A system that works with and for patients.

In a very short time, our health care innovations have had significant patient-first impact. From cardiology to cancer care, health care research to medical education, Trillium Health Partners is transforming the ways that Canadian health care is delivered, taught, and researched.

Our Vision: A Health Care Movement

In the next 20 years, our growing and changing community will place more demand for acute care services on Trillium Health Partners (THP) than any other Ontario hospital. That is why THP has developed a ten-year strategic plan to provide more support for better health. The plan will develop clinical programs and partnerships that think and act differently, helping us deliver more than exceptional hospital care. Our vision is not to just build more health care, but to build a healthier community.

We are creating an interconnected system of care that leaves no one behind. We are learning, growing and innovating so that we can care for more people with even better results. We are reinventing our hospital by engaging patients in their own care decisions, by increasing access and reducing wait times, and by extending our services into the community. We are also working with partners to serve our patients before and after they need the hospital. This plan looks beyond building a bigger and better hospital. We’re changing how and where we deliver care to our community at every stage of life. We’re creating a new kind of health care for a healthier community.

Our Challenge

Trillium Health Partners serves 2.4 million people in Mississauga, west Toronto, and Halton and Peel regions and welcomes 1.7 million patient visits a year in facilities built to serve half that number. The population we care for is projected to grow by approximately 45% (1 million people) by 2041, with much of that increase coming from children and from seniors who often require care for chronic disease. Our region is also the most culturally diverse in Canada, home to patients who speak more than 130 languages.

The demographics and diversity of the population we serve makes for a vibrant community. They will challenge our capacity – the beds, clinics, programs and professionals – required to meet our community’s needs, and place clear demands on THP to provide the patient-centred care. Our community is too familiar with a health care system that often forces patients, families, and caregivers to coordinate their own care and independently navigate health care services and information. That is why our plan envisions a hospital that is part an inclusive and interconnected system to address the health needs of the community in and outside our walls.

Our Track Record Of Accomplishment

THP cares for more Ontarians than any other hospital in the province, but that achievement is only truly meaningful if the care we provide is exceptional and of the highest standard – and it is.

In 2014, we launched the $60M Medical Psychiatry Alliance partnership with SickKids, CAMH, and University of Toronto, transforming how care is delivered inclusive of mind and body. In 2015, we graduated our first class of physicians from the Mississauga Academy of Medicine at University of Toronto, solidifying our position as a top-tier interprofessional teaching hospital. In 2016, we recruited an internationally-renowned health services scholar as Chief Scientist of our applied research Institute for Better Health, prompting other leading scholars to join in subsequent years. Our Institute for Better Health embeds research and rapid learning in our work to swiftly address real-life health care challenges.

In 2017, Accreditation Canada awarded THP the highest rating possible – Exemplary Standing. In 2018, THP received the 3M Health Care Quality Team Award for Putting Patients at the Heart (PPATH), a program that connects THP cardiac patients with Saint Elizabeth to create seamless care between the hospital and home.

These accomplishments and others are the result of our constant pursuit of innovations that improve patient care. We don’t wait for governments to direct our strategies. We invest strategically in making our own path to better health care.

Our Approach

THP has a track record of improving the accessibility, quality, and sustainability of our care by being efficient, by collaborating with community partners, and by employing research to drive evidence-based innovation. Now, we are taking the next step by redesigning our own system of care around the needs and values of our patients.

THP is building and reconfiguring patient spaces to create the strong infrastructure required to launch big ideas like innovative clinical programs; community-connected care of the mind, body and spirit; and new patient-facing information systems. Building new physical capacity is a critical part of the THP plan, and in the spring of 2017 the Ontario Government approved our expansion project to significantly increase capacity at all three hospital sites. But our Strategic Plan and vision is about much more than investing in new buildings. Our new facilities will unlock a variety of health care options with flexible, patient-friendly spaces, connected technologies, and spaces that facilitate community collaborations while accommodating decades of projected increases in demand. Patients and their families will be more comfortable, better informed, and more empowered.

Massive Infrastructure Expansion

Our community has one of the most ethnically diverse, fastest-growing populations in North America. With an estimated addition of 650,000 residents by 2035, our unmatched patient volumes will only increase. To help us meet these demands, it was recently announced in the 2017 provincial budget that THP has been given funding approval to expand our Mississauga Hospital and Queensway Health Centre.

This significant, long-term infrastructure commitment will allow for expansion of our Mississauga Hospital and Queensway Health Centre sites. The plan will add over 500 new hospital beds and replace over 500 existing beds. The redevelopment plan will involve a new acute care tower at the Mississauga Hospital and new post-acute complex at the Queensway Health Centre.

In the meantime, THP will continue to address capacity challenges as a result of growing demand for health care services and aging infrastructure. Trillium is working with the Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network and other health service providers to develop new innovative care models to increase capacity including: the development of a Seniors’ Health Campus, expanding bundled care programs, and partnership with Runnymede Health Care.
