The Canadian Bar Association (CBA) is recognized as the national and international voice of Canadian lawyers on matters of law and justice, and the advocate for the interests of its members and the legal profession. As the essential ally and advocate of all members of the legal profession, the CBA is committed to enhancing the professional and commercial interests of a diverse membership and to protecting the independence of the judiciary and the Bar. The Association represents over 35,000 lawyers, judges, Quebec notaries, law teachers and law students across Canada, including more than 6,500 members of the BC Branch.

The Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch is looking to the future and requires a nimble, intelligent, people-focused senior leader to take on the role of Executive Director. The new Executive Director is a creative individual, dedicated to serving a highly professional and dynamic membership, who strives for excellence and brings a depth of experience and understanding around the current and future state of association management.

The Executive Director provides leadership by working closely with the Board and organizational team to achieve the goals, priorities and strategic vision of CBABC. The Executive Director is responsible for building upon a member service-oriented organization that develops and delivers meaningful programs, establishes and maintains beneficial relationships with members, the legal sector, government and other stakeholders. As an effective spokesperson and ‘the face of the organization’, the Executive Director establishes a clear, confident direction both provincially and nationally and takes a prominent leadership role for the evolvement of legal professionals. Furthermore, the Executive Director ensures efficient operations, ongoing promotion, growth, risk mitigation and effective management of the organization.

The ideal candidate is a confident and multi-faceted executive leader with excellent business acumen and a minimum of 10 years’ experience leading a member-driven organization. The chosen candidate will bring outstanding strategic thinking, board governance best practices, communications, stakeholder and media relations, networking and policy skills. This position also requires genuine collaboration, keen diplomacy and the proven ability to connect across a large and diverse membership base. Experience working with a volunteer board would be beneficial. Preference may be given to candidates with a JD/LLB or MBA.
