Founded in 1960, The Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA) is the industry voice for nuclear energy. A non-profit industry association, CNA passionately advocates for the development and growth of nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes. A six billion dollar industry, providing 16.6% of the country’s electricity, nuclear power is a safe, clean, affordable, and reliable energy source, and a key part of Canada’s energy future. Nuclear energy also plays a role in a number of other sectors including consumer products, food and agriculture, industry, medicine and scientific research, transport, and water resources, and the environment through radioisotopes, nuclear power process heat, and non-stationary power reactors. The Canadian Nuclear Association is now seeking their next President and CEO to unite industry, raise public and stakeholder awareness, and champion nuclear as a preferred energy source.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President & CEO will lead the nuclear industry through a pivotal period in its evolution. With a staff of 10 and a budget of approximately $3 million, the new President and CEO will build effective relationships across industry, government, and stakeholder groups, while working collaboratively to deliver on the strategic priorities of the Association. Raising visibility for nuclear power, the incumbent will provide hands-on leadership in gaining public support while ensuring that the industry’s interests are advocated for in regulatory and policy dialogue.  He or she will work with members and other relevant partner organizations to shape the future of this key sector in Canada’s energy landscape while also ensuring that Canadian industry is well-represented in the international context.

As an ideal candidate, you are a passionate advocate for the advancement of nuclear technology and bring credibility and gravitas to the role. You understand how to navigate the political arena and bring both strategic and operational leadership with an understanding of association management, advocacy, and stakeholder relations. You are an active listener and build consensus among members, while taking a proactive approach to media relations and public and government engagement. You bring the ability to develop trusted relationships with key influencers, industry allies, the media, and provincial/federal governments. Solution-oriented and collaborative, you know how to maximize limited resources for optimal gain, and have the demonstrated ability to navigate complex environments and drive forward on policy and regulatory issues. Bilingualism is an asset.
